Bulgarian Woman Shocked by Exorbitant Parking Fee at Sofia Airport
A Bulgarian woman was left astonished after returning from a vacation to find an unexpected charge of BGN 840 (approximately EUR 420) for parking her car at Sofia Airport’s R5 parking lot for 10 days. The woman, who had left her car at the airport on December 1, returned to discover that the parking fee had increased significantly, with no prior notification.
"I come back to Bulgaria and find out I have to pay BGN 840 for parking for 10 days, instead of BGN 110, because the prices changed on December 1, and this was reported on three national TV stations," she wrote on Facebook. She also pointed out that the luxurious R5 parking, where "only sheikhs park their cars," charged BGN 420 for 7 days.
The woman advised others to file a complaint, stating, "The only advice from the parking managers is – FILE A COMPLAINT!!!" Her post has since gained traction on social media, with many users expressing their outrage and sharing similar experiences.
New Parking System and ‘Kiss & Ride’ Zone at Terminal 2
In related news, Sofia Airport has introduced a new parking system and a ‘Kiss & Ride’ zone at Terminal 2, effective January 9. The new system involves barrier systems that register vehicle license plates, aiming to better manage traffic and access to the larger terminal.
The ‘Kiss & Ride’ zone allows for a 10-minute free stay for picking up or dropping off passengers, with a 60-minute interval between free stays. Beyond 10 minutes, parking fees apply, starting at BGN 10 for up to 30 minutes, and increasing to BGN 20 per hour. Disabled persons have a 30-minute free stay, while buses have a 10-minute free stay, with no time limit for public transport.
Parking in the ‘Kiss & Ride’ zone or nearby streets is prohibited. The new parking rates at Terminal 2 are as follows:
