President Yoon Suk Yeol Vows to Fight Arrest Warrant as Term Nears End
Jakarta – Ousted President of South Korea (Korsel), Yoon Suk Yeol, continues to defy an arrest warrant over his brief martial law declaration. Yoon has sworn to resist the authorities‘ attempt to interrogate him.
In a statement released to supporters, Yoon doubled down on his decision, asserting that the country faces internal and external threats to its sovereignty. His lawyer, Yoon Kab-keun, confirmed the statement’s authenticity.
"I swear to fight alongside you until the end to protect this nation," Yoon said, addressing hundreds of supporters in a live YouTube broadcast on Wednesday night.
Yoon’s legal team has challenged the arrest warrant, arguing that it is "unlawful and invalid." However, the head of the Corruption Investigation Office (CIO), Oh Dong-woon, warned that anyone obstructing Yoon’s arrest could face legal consequences.
Historically, Korean law enforcement has struggled to execute arrest warrants against lawmakers, with incidents in 2000 and 2004 resulting in seven-day standoffs by party members and supporters.
Opposition lawmakers swiftly condemned Yoon’s statement, with Democratic Party spokesperson Jo Seoung-lae calling it "delusional" and accusing him of inciting unrest.
