In a bid to counter the swelling tide of flu cases across the region, the Junta de Castilla y León is underscoring the critical importance of vaccination. The focus is squarely on protecting vulnerable populations: children aged 6 months to 5 years, adults aged 60 and above, and individuals with health conditions that could be exacerbated by a viral infection.

Acting swiftly, regional health authorities have made the flu vaccine accessible to all. As of now, a noteworthy 651,391 doses have been administered, with proportions allocated as follows:

  • Age-related risk groups: 500,272 doses
  • Patients with underlying health issues: 35,800 doses
  • Residents in long-term care facilities: 27,103 doses
  • Prescription-based vaccinations: 9,630 doses
  • Healthcare professionals: 17,543 doses

Vaccination numbers by province stand at 45,917 for Ávila, 91,026 for Burgos, 116,127 for León, 43,136 for Palencia, 92,254 for Salamanca, 41,218 for Segovia, 26,004 for Soria, 141,786 for Valladolid, 50,562 for Zamora, and 3,361 doses with unspecified province.

Moreover, the region has delivered 9,269 doses of nirsevimab, a monoclonal antibody offering protection against the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). This represents 67.7% of the 13,700 doses procured. Single-dose vaccinations are being administered to children born between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025, while those with particular health risks may receive two doses.

In the realm of COVID-19 vaccinations, an impressive 395,616 adults have been immunized across the region, with distributions mirroring those of the flu vaccine. Among groups, those at higher risk due to age led the charge, with 303,417 vaccinations, followed by institutionalized individuals (39,768), those with underlying health concerns (34,149), healthcare workers (7,251), and social care center staff (6,469).

The Junta’s commitment to safeguarding public health remains steadfast, as reflected in these comprehensive vaccination efforts.
