Bulgaria is set to face a spell of unsettled weather in the coming days, with yellow warnings for rain, snow, wind, and ice issued by the Met Office. The warning, which remains in place throughout Tuesday and into the night, signals a high risk of potentially dangerous weather conditions across the country.
In the south-western half of Bulgaria, the weather is expected to deteriorate with temperatures plummeting and heavy snow and rain forecast. The northern and western parts of the country are at risk of ice, which could lead to hazardous travel conditions.

The danger of ice extends into Tuesday morning, particularly in mountainous regions and at higher altitudes. Expect rainfall in many regions, with snow likely in the higher elevations of western Bulgaria and sleet in the Predbalkan region. The wind is set to strengthen as well, becoming western and sometimes strong.

It will be cold over the next few days, with minimum temperatures ranging from -1°C to 4°C, including -1°C in Sofia. Maximum temperatures are expected to range from 1°C to 6°C in most areas, with some eastern regions experiencing highs between 10°C and 13°C, and Sofia around 1°C.

The worst of the weather is yet to come, with heavy precipitation and strong winds predicted for the following three days. The wind will shift to the north, becoming moderate to strong in eastern Bulgaria. Temperatures will continue to drop, bringing further snow to Western Bulgaria and the Western Fore-Balkan and Rodope regions.

By Friday, as temperatures continue to fall, rain will start to turn to snow across the country, although the intensity and coverage of precipitation are expected to decrease. The weekend looks largely dry, with more sunshine expected on Sunday.

Meteorologist Georgi Raichev of the National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology warns that snowfall is expected over much of Bulgaria in the coming days, signaling the start of winter.
