Bulgarian Man Facing Manslaughter Charges After Deadly Horse-Drawn Cart Accident
A Bulgarian District Court in Kyustendil has imposed a house arrest order on Stoyan Igov, owner of the horses involved in a fatal accident near Yabalkovo village last year, BNT reported. An 18-year-old girl died in the incident.
The 70-year-old man is accused of failing to adequately care for his animals, leading to the severe road incident. Initially, prosecutors had sought his detention, but the court opted for house arrest due to his poor health and the severity of the evidence against him. Igov could face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to 10,000 Lev if found guilty.
At the court hearing, Igov asserted that he wouldn’t flee or hide. He sought to examine photos from the accident, stating that not all involved horses were his. He remained silent upon leaving the courtroom.
The house arrest order can be appealed at the Kyustendil Regional Court until January 15.
