Arbeidstilsynet is hosting a series of four digital meetings addressing high work-related sick leave in the accommodation and catering sector. The sessions focus on systematic preventive work against physical and mental strain, featuring guidance from agency inspectors and an open chat for participants.
Digital Meetings Target High Sick Leave in Hospitality
To combat this, the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority is inviting managers, employee representatives, and safety delegates to a series of digital meetings focused on systematic workplace environment efforts.
Workdays in hotels, restaurants, and tourism are often demanding and hectic. Arbeidstilsynet notes that the initiative aims to show businesses how to prevent work-related illness and manage practical health and safety routines effectively.
Four Identical Sessions Scheduled Online
The agency has scheduled the digital meeting four times with identical content to accommodate participants’ schedules. While the events are free and open to all interested parties, registration is mandatory to receive the access link.
Arbeidstilsynet confirmed that no recordings will be made available afterward. Participants can direct questions regarding the schedule or registration to Gunnar Markus Misje via email at gunnar.markus.misje@arbeidstilsynet.no.
Systematic Prevention Against Physical and Mental Strain
Over time, shift work, night shifts, stress, time pressure, heavy or repetitive tasks, lone working, and demanding customer interactions can cause cumulative strain and elevate the risk of sick leave. Workers also face severe risks including unwanted sexual attention, violence, and threats of violence.
Under the Working Environment Act, companies must map their work environments, assess associated risks, and implement necessary measures to prevent injuries and illnesses. During the digital sessions, inspectors and specialists will share practical experiences, concrete advice, and examples of how to strengthen workplace safety.
Did you know? An open chat function will run throughout each digital meeting, allowing attendees to submit direct questions to Arbeidstilsynet’s participating experts and inspectors in real time.
