Yachua Mauricio Flores, a 23-year-old resident of Lincoln Heights, was sentenced Monday, Aug. 3, to three years and one month in federal prison for his involvement in an unruly anti-immigration enforcement protest in downtown Los Angeles last year. U.S. District Judge John F. Walter handed down the prison term and ordered Flores to pay $253,415 in restitution.
Flores previously pleaded guilty to one federal count of obstructing, impeding, and interfering with law enforcement officers during a civil disorder. The case stems from events on the evening of June 8, 2025, when a riot erupted on the Main Street overpass of the 101 Freeway. According to his plea agreement, law enforcement officers became trapped below the overpass as demonstrators hurled rocks, chunks of concrete, scooters, street signs, fireworks, and lighted debris at them.

During the unrest, Flores actively escalated the danger by tampering with a burning California Highway Patrol vehicle parked below, prosecutors stated. Court documents show that Flores poured lighter fluid from a plastic water bottle onto the burning vehicle to intensify the flames. He then directed another individual who poured a burning liquid substance onto the same CHP vehicle.
