New Air Force App Helps Troops Meet Fitness Standards

Capt. Zachary Hicks, an urgent care physician with the 374th Medical Group, has launched “Military Fitness Score,” a mobile application designed to consolidate physical fitness standards across the U.S. armed forces. The free app, which went live on July 16, allows service members to calculate scores, track individual training progress, and manage diagnostic data for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, and Marine Corps from a single platform.

Consolidating Military Physical Fitness Standards

Service members have historically relied on disparate calculators and branch-specific resources to monitor their physical readiness. Hicks developed the app after identifying a need for a unified platform. “Why do we have a different app for every branch?” Hicks said during a July 8 interview at Yokota Air Base, Japan. The application enables users to input their branch, age, gender, and performance results to track practice and official test scores over time.

Did you know?
Military Fitness Score allows users to set target scores and upcoming test dates. The app then analyzes performance data to recommend specific areas for improvement, helping service members prepare for official evaluations.

Operational Efficiency for Fitness Managers

Beyond individual use, the platform offers features for unit fitness managers to streamline administrative tasks. Capt. Aliaksei Krasouski, an urgent care nurse and fitness manager who participated in beta testing, noted that the app reduces reliance on physical binders and printed instructional materials. According to Krasouski, the software acts as a centralized repository for fitness records and instructional videos.

“The main takeaway is that you have everybody’s information,” Krasouski said during a July 30 interview. “You can send them reminders for upcoming fitness tests at a click of a button.” The app also permits service members to export their fitness data for official records, addressing the transition to the Air Force’s updated physical fitness assessment standards implemented on Jan. 6.

Application Development as a Practical Solution

The creation of Military Fitness Score follows Hicks’ previous experience developing mobile tools for photography and coffee enthusiasts. He describes his development process as an extension of his medical practice: identifying a problem, researching the requirements, and building a functional solution. “I started creating apps to literally fill those gaps and just do what I wanted them to do,” Hicks said.

The app is currently available for download on both Apple and Android devices. By providing a standardized interface, Hicks aims to assist service members in meeting evolving fitness requirements more effectively.
