Hundreds of emergency services scrambled on Dutch A17 highway after dog goes for a dangerous joyride
multiple emergency services were called into action on sunday when a dog decided to take a dangerous joyride on the busy a17 highway near moerdijk. the animal sprinted across the fast lane, causing chaos and numerous concerned calls to the control room.
in a desperate attempt to catch the wayward canine, its owner parked their car on the hard shoulder and attempted to chase it down. but the dog had other plans, ingeniously evading capture at every turn.
seeing the situation escalate, police and rijkswaterstaat (dutch public works) joined the pursuit. soon, a large team of responders were racing along the hard shoulder in a bid to catch the four-legged fugitive. but the dog wasn’t about to give up without a fight, repeatedly slipping through their fingers.
with the situation crying out for a controlled environment, police took the decision to close the highway entirely. and with good reason – after suffice it to say, the dog had worked up quite an appetite.
luckily, one clever officer had the bright idea to use some dog food as bait. the hungry hound took the bait, and was quickly and safely apprehended. with the crisis averted, the highway was reopened to traffic around half an hour later.
the dog is now safely back in its kennel, but how it ended up on the fast lane in the first place remains a mystery. police confirmed that the dog had been reported missing in zevenbergschenhoek.
