Leningrad’s Body: Still No Final Rite Amidst Debate on His Legacy

Rumors persist, but thedasification of Vladimir Lenin‘s remains is yet to be decided, as many in Russia continue to debate the late leader’s legacy. ValeryFadeyev, chairman of the Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, told TАSS that the nation is not ready for such a move.

"I’m against it. Many Russians still view Lenin as a great man, one of the architects of our current socio-political system,"Fadeyev stated. "He deserves the respect and admiration we’ve shown him thus far."

The conversation surrounding Lenin’s legacy and potential interment is a recurring theme in Russian society. Since his death on January 21, 1924, Lenin’s body has been on display in a Moscow mausoleum, a stark reminder of his impact on modern Russian history.

Despite the controversy, a recent poll suggested that nearly 55% of Russians support keeping Lenin’s body at the Kremlin, while 36% are against the idea. However, the decision lies with the government, which has remained largely non-committal on the matter.

As discussions continue, one thing is clear: our fascination with Lenin endures, testament to the indelible mark he left on Russia’s historical narrative.
