Russian Strike on Dnipro Train Station Kills 13

Jet-powered drone strikes Dnipro station platform

At least 13 people were killed when a Russian jet-powered drone struck a busy platform at the main train station in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro. State rail company Ukrzaliznytsia stated on Thursday that the drone hit the station as a train prepared to depart for the nearby city of Zaporizhzhia. Zaporizhzhia’s regional Governor Oleksandr Hanzha reported on Telegram that at least five more people sustained injuries in the attack.

The strikes extended across multiple Ukrainian regions. Mayor Ihor Terekhov stated on Telegram that Russian forces hit Kharkiv, damaging an educational institution in Ukraine’s second-biggest city. Ukrainian authorities also documented overnight strikes in the Rivne region that resulted in one man’s death. Meanwhile, Russian news agencies cited the Ministry of Defence reporting a strike against a cargo vessel used by the military in the Black Sea.

Air defence forces down drones near Moscow

In response to a major overnight barrage, Russian air defence forces downed most of the 613 drones launched toward the Moscow region, state news agency TASS reported. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated on Telegram that air defence units destroyed 231 unmanned aerial vehicles on approach, while others were neutralized on distant approaches between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. Independent Russian Telegram channel Astra reported that three explosions occurred near Naro-Fominsk, located 56 kilometers from Moscow’s main ring road, with additional blasts heard toward Kaluga Oblast.

Kremlin condemns attacks during African leaders summit

The Kremlin condemned the drone attacks on Moscow while the city hosted more than 22 African leaders at a summit, according to TASS. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called it very strange for Kyiv to target the capital during this diplomatic event. The Russian Defence Ministry reported intercepting and destroying a total of 1,214 Ukrainian drones overnight across multiple regions.

Away from the capital region, a localized ceasefire remained in effect to allow humanitarian aid deliveries. A Ukrainian delegation traveled to the Russian-controlled town of Oleshky under a six-day ceasefire that began early Tuesday. The Kremlin stated its hope that aid would reach Oleshky on Thursday or Friday, with Interfax reporting that residents wishing to leave were able to do so. Neither Ukraine nor Russia reported any violations of the ceasefire.
