Polish President Andrzej Duda Eyes Strengthening EU-US Ties During EU Presidency
Polish President Andrzej Duda has expressed his expectations for the upcoming Polish presidency of the European Union, emphasizing the importance of bolstering relations with the United States. In his New Year’s address, as reported by "Euromaidan Press," Duda underscored that Poland’s security rests on a strong and modern army, and robust international alliances.
Duda praised the growing number of NATO countries committing to increase their defense spending to 3% of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP), stating, "Only a strong NATO, led by the United States, guarantees the security of Poland and our entire region." He stressed the significance of U.S. involvement, both militarily and economically, in ensuring European safety.
"I am proud to say that our strategic Polish-American relations are stronger than ever," Duda stated. "But I am convinced that they can deepen even further in the coming months."
Poland assumes the EU presidency on January 1, with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk previously suggesting that significant events related to the Ukraine conflict could arise during this period. Priorities for Poland’s presidency include enhancing security, energy, and technological competitiveness, all of which may benefit from strengthened EU-US cooperation.
