Stay Informed: Monsoon Season 2024/2025 and La Niña‘s Impact
Previously, BMKG explained that the peak of the 2024 monsoon season in Indonesia is divided into two periods. For western Indonesia, the peak occurs in November-December 2024. Meanwhile, for eastern Indonesia, the peak will continue into January-February 2025. Additionally, the La Niña phenomenon, which is expected to last until April 2025, will make Indonesia wetter than usual.
This phenomenon also predicts that the duration of the 2024/2025 monsoon season will be longer than usual in most parts of the country.
Looking ahead to 2025, Deputy Head of Climatology at BMKG, Ardhasena Sopaheluwakan, highlighted several key points about Indonesia’s climate:
- Above-normal rainfall is expected in 2025, increasing the risk of extreme hydrometeorological events like floods and landslides.
- Drought and forest fires remain potential threats during the dry season.
- Above-normal rainfall is predicted from July to September 2025.
- Above-average temperatures are expected in May-July 2025.
