The Recidivism Challenge: Rethinking Rehabilitation Along Jakarta’s Toll Roads

by Chief Editor January 5, 2025

Headline:
Arrest Made in Brutal Highway Carjacking: Man Caught for Stabbings on Congested Toll Road

Article:

In a dramatic turn of events, Jakarta police have apprehended a man named M Ali Sanda (MAS), allegedly involved in a brazen carjacking incident that targeted a couple on the accessibility toll road of Tanjung Priok, Jakarta Utara. MAS is believed to have played a pivotal role in threatening the victims with a sharp weapon.

"Our team has successfully apprehended one suspect, identified as MAS, who threatened the victims with a sharp object," said Kanit Jatanras of the Metro Jakarta Utara Police, AKP Lukman, in an interview on Saturday, January 4, 2025.

The heinous crime unfolded on Friday, January 3, in the evening, when traffic was heavily congested at the scene. MAS, along with five other accomplices, carried out the daring robbery.

MAS, authorities revealed, has a history of criminal behavior, being a repeat offender particularly in cases of stealing with violence, or ‘curas’.

"In our initial investigation, we found out that MAS is a recidivist, previously arrested by Kelapa Gading Police for a similar crime," AKP Lukman disclosed.

Currently, police are hot on the heels of the remaining five suspects who collaborated with MAS in this operation. Their modus operandi includes frequently targeting vehicles near the Plumpang Toll Road.

Operating When Traffic is Stalled

The mastermind behind the operation indicated that the group often targeted vehicles on Jakarta’s toll roads, specifically when traffic was heavy. Before carrying out their crimes, the gang would gather at a designated point near the location.

"They gather around before the incident, waiting for a suitable moment when traffic is heavily congested. Upon identifying an opportunity, they approach vehicles with open windows," AKP Lukman revealed to journalists.

The gang used sharp weapons, called ‘celurit’, to intimidate drivers and passengers into surrendering their valuables.

"Once they have identified an ideal target, they swiftly approach, armed with their weapons, and demand the handover of the victims’ belongings," he added.

So far, two vehicles have been reported as victims of the robberies. On Friday, a couple was targeted by the armed gang in the midst of the heavy congestion.

"The group encircled the couple’s car and attempted to assault the wife through the passenger side," reported Kombes Ade Ary Syam Indradi, Chief of the Metropolitan Jaya Police Public Relations Bureau.

In a separate incident, a lone driver was also targeted by the gang as he was exiting the toll road. The thief demanded money from the driver, snatched his bag, and además inflicted injuries to his back before fleeing the scene.

This capture brings some relief for Jakarta’s road users, but police caution that the hunt for the remaining suspects is ongoing. They urge everyone to stay alert and remain safe while navigating the city’s toll roads.

Polisi Unveils Rp 2 Billion Slush Fund Behind PPDS Student’s Death; Lawmaker Calls for Comprehensive Undip Program Review

Jakarta – Authorities have exposed a Rp 2 billion money trail in the case of bullying that led to the death of Aulia Risma, a student in the Program Pendidikan Dokter Spesialis (PPDS) in Anesthesia at the University of Diponegoro (Undip). The revelation has prompted calls for a thorough review of the PPDS program at Undip.

Ketua Komisi X DPR-RI, Hetifah Sjaifudian, urged both the government and the commission to support a comprehensive evaluation of the PPDS program at Undip. She believes this is crucial for identifying the root cause of problems, eliminating a culture of violence and exploitation, and ensuring the program upholds ethic, legal, and academic standards.

"Both the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education and the Ministry of Health should work together to conduct a thorough audit of the systems, policies, and learning environment at PPDS Undip," Hetifah asserted via WhatsApp to detikcom on Saturday (28/12/2024).

The aim of this audit, according to Hetifah, is to create a conducive learning environment, respect the rights of students, and produce medical professionals who are both competent and ethical. She also encouraged victims of bullying and exploitation at PPDS Undip to speak up and report their cases to the authorities.

"Victims must have the courage to report these incidents to the relevant authorities or use the available campus complaint mechanisms," Hetifah emphasized.

In a previous report, police revealed that the money trail in the bullying case of the PPDS student reached Rp 2 billion. One piece of evidence, a note containing Rp 97 million, was successfully recovered. According to Direktorat Reserse Kriminal Umum Polda Jawa Tengah Kombes Dwi Subagio, the money was collected from bullying victims in one semester in a single batch.

"Based on evidence, the total amount involved is around Rp 2 billion," Kombes Dwi Subagio was quoted as saying by detikJateng on Friday (27/12/2024).

Breaking: 79-Year-Old Man Arrested for Repeatedly Raping and Impregnating His Disabled Daughter

Gowa, South Sulawesi – In a shocking turn of events, police in Gowa, South Sulawesi have apprehended a 79-year-old man for repeatedly raping his disabled daughter, resulting in her pregnancy and childbirth. The horrific incidents began in August 2023.

"We have arrested the father who is the perpetrator in this case. The victim is his own daughter, a speech-impaired individual with disabilities. These heinous acts have been ongoing since August 2023," said Gowa Police Chief, AKBP Reonald T.S Simanjuntak, during a press conference.

Although the man’s abominable actions started over a year ago, the police only received a report on Saturday, December 28, 2024. The perpetrator was found to have assaulted the victim in their home, located in the Biringbulu district of Gowa Regency.

The suspect, aware of his crimes, attempted to flee to Jeneponto Regency but was caught after a car chase that resulted in an accident. He sustained injuries from the crash.

Investigations revealed that the man tried to force the victim to undergo an abortion. However, his efforts were unsuccessful, leading to the birth of her child.

"The perpetrator took advantage of the victim’s limitations to repeatedly carry out these acts. He then attempted an abortion, which ultimately led to the birth of the child, who is currently in good health," police clarified.

The accused is now being detained at the Gowa Police Station and faces charges under the Child Protection Act and the Law on Sexual Violence Crimes. He could face more than 15 years in prison for his crimes.

Woman Speaks Out After Forced Divorce and False Accusations of Assault, Unveils Ex-Husband’s Identity

Title: Indonesian Woman Seeks Divorce After Being Coerced into Filing False Violence Resource Center”>Rape Report

Jakarta, Dec 28 (via Detik) – Arimbi, a 39-year-old woman, has decided to divorce her husband, Yudi, after being forced to file a false rape report against him. Arimbi described her former spouse as temperamental and a former narcotics user.

"Yudi was not only temperamental but also jealous, and he was an active drug user at the time we were together," Arimbi told reporters on Saturday. "I understand that police need evidence, not hallucinations, but this was too much."

Arimbi refuted Yudi’s claims during a parliamentary session on Thursday, December 19. She firmly stated that neither she nor her child had been sexually assaulted and that the 2017 case had been closed for years.

Arimbi revealed that Yudi’s excessive jealousy led her to make the false accusation. "I’ve heard him say that I should report ‘D’ for allegedly assaulting me, but nothing like that ever happened," she explained.

Throughout their relationship, Arimbi faced severe domestic violence. "He punched me on the face so hard that my eyelid’s blood vessels burst," she recalled.

Regrettably, their child was also drawn into the matter. Arimbi hopes to gain full custody, saying, "I don’t want my child to grow up with someone like him."

The case resurfaced when Yudi appeared at the parliamentary session, claiming that his wife had been sexually assaulted. Muhammad Arnaz, Arimbi’s lawyer, wishes to resolve this issue promptly.

In this fast-paced world, transparency and honesty are key. Arimbi’s courage to speak up against domestic abuse should serve as an inspiration to others. Let this story be a reminder that no one deserves to live in fear, and everyone has the right to safety and justice.

Mother Alleges Former Husband and Children as Victims of Domestic Violence Orchestration

Solo Woman Denies Ex-Husband’s Allegations of Rape, Claims False Police Report

A woman from Solo, identified as Arimbi, has refuted her former husband Yudi’s testimony in the Regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit (RDPU) of Komisi III DPR RI, which alleged that he had raped his comatose wife for seven years. Arimbi maintains that the rape and child abuse case is a fabrication by her ex-husband.

"Rape never happened, so I was forced to give a false report at the police station. I’ve never experienced anything like that with me or my child. Neither has there been any harassment," Arimbi clarified in a video statement to reporters on Saturday (28/12/2024).

Arimbi accused her ex-husband of coercing their child to falsely confess to being a victim of sodomy. "My child has been intimidated and abused by their father for seven years, being forced to confess as a victim of sodomy," she added.

Arimbi revealed that she was coerced into filing a false report at her husband’s behest at the time. She felt threatened and feared for her safety.

The case was first reported by Arimbi to the police in 2017. According to Arimbi, Yudi manufactured the rape accusation out of jealousy towards a man identified as ‘D’. "I was forced to make a false report, intimidated because Yudi did this to arrest D and satisfy his jealousy," Arimbi said.

Arimbi had previously confessed to being raped by D to her then-husband. However, this was a lie to ensure her safety. "I made a false confession only for my safety. My position at that time was that I was locked up for three days, and I didn’t know if I would live or not if I didn’t get help from the police," she explained.

One day, when Arimbi had the opportunity to escape Yudi, she went to the police station and withdrew her report. The case was also closed in the same year, 2017.

"When Yudi slipped up, I had the chance to tell the police that this report was false," Arimbi said.

Arimbi admitted that she withdrew the report of her own accord, asserting that there was no coercion or intimidation involved.

Hopes for a Reunion with Her Child

Arimbi also hopes to meet with Komisi III DPR RI to provide a clarification on the said allegation. She wishes for the public to know the truth behind the case.

"I hope that this clarification of mine reaches Komisi III DPR, so that all misunderstandings can be settled, and everyone knows the truth about what really happened," Arimbi said.

Furthermore, Arimbi also expressed her desire to reunite with her child, having been denied access to them by her ex-husband for the past seven years.

"I’ve been separated from my child for so long, I haven’t been able to see them for 7 years. I’ve only been intimidated into giving a false testimony as a rape victim," Arimbi remarked.

Bali Getaway Exposure After Brutal Spouse Assault: Woman Indifferent to Husband‘s Fate

In a shocking turn of events, the case of a woman who brutally assaulted her husband until his leg was broken has taken a new twist. It has been revealed that the suspect, Melody Sharon, went on a vacation to Bali with her lover following the incident.

Police have uncovered that Melody, 31, showed no remorse after assaulting and dragging her husband in Cipayung, East Jakarta. Instead of worrying about her husband’s condition, she went on a trip with her lover.

"Before her arrest, she didn’t feel any remorse. She didn’t even ask about her husband’s condition or her children. She even went to Bali with her lover," said the head of Metro Jakarta Timur Police, Kombes Nicolas Ary Lilipaly, in an interview on Monday, December 23, 2024.

Melody was eventually arrested and officially named a suspect. Only then did she express regret for her actions, claiming to be sorry and feeling guilty. However, this remorse came after her arrest and detention, raising questions about the sincerity of her regret.

Investigations have revealed that Melody was fully conscious while assaulting and dragging her husband with a car for about 200 meters, resulting in his leg being broken. This violent act was allegedly committed due to Melody’s discovery of her husband’s infidelity with not one, but two men.

Melody Sharon has been charged under Article 44, Paragraph (2) of Law No. 23 of 2004 on Domestic Violence (KDRT) and is currently being detained at the Metro Jakarta Timur Police Station.

The police have also received a report alleging adultery against Melody. The report was made at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters and has been registered under number LP/B/7754/XII/2024/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA dated December 18, 2024.

Melody’s husband, a man identified by the initial A, has filed a report under Article 284 regarding adultery. The alleged lovers involved are Melody Sharon and a man identified by the initial T.S.

"Yes, we have received a report regarding Article 284. The informant in this case is the husband," said the Head of Public Relations for the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Ade Ary Syam Indradi, in an interview on Saturday, December 21.

As the events continue to unfold, the public is left to wonder about the motivations and remorse of Melody Sharon in this troubling case.

Bogor: Wife’s Potential Miscarriage Derails Peaceful Settlement in ‘Pak Ogah’ Road Incident

In a turn of events, a woman’s potential pregnancy complication has scuppered a previously agreed peaceful settlement in a case involving ‘Pak Ogah’, a local road enforcer, and a motorist in Bogor, West Java.

The incident occurred on Sunday, December 22, during the year-end holiday season, when a driver, identified as IH, accidentally hit a pedestrian on the Puncak Megamendung alternate route. Three ‘Pak Ogah’ figures, who often collect money from passing vehicles, surrounded IH’s car, demanding payment. IH’s wife, unaware of the situation, stepped out to investigate the commotion and was subsequently struck by one of the ‘Pak Ogah’ figures.

The couple later filed a police report at the Megamendung Police Station. Following the incident, all parties agreed to settle the matter amicably with the assistance of police mediation. However, this agreement has now been revoked due to IH’s wife’s current health condition.

"IH and his wife have decided to discontinue the mediation process and file a police report instead," revealed AKP Teguh Kumara, the head of the Bogor Police Criminal Investigation Unit, on Thursday, December 26. This decision was influenced by the discovery that IH’s wife is pregnant and has a potential risk of miscarriage, a complication directly attributed to the physical altercation.

Police have since arrested two of the three ‘Pak Ogah’ figures involved in the incident, charging them under articles 170 and 335 of the Indonesian Criminal Code. The remaining suspect is still at large and being actively sought by authorities.

"Two of the suspects have been apprehended and are currently in custody. We are still pursuing the third suspect, who is currently at large," said AKBP Rio Wahyu Anggoro, the Bogor Police Chief.

The incident serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing issue of roadside enforcers, or ‘Pak Ogah’, and their often heavy-handed tactics towards motorists in Indonesia. As the holidays approach, police have warned of increased enforcement to prevent similar incidents from occurring.

Mozambique Elections: Deadly Violence Erupts Following Presidential Poll Results

Title: Mozambik Rocked by Post-Election Violence; 21 Dead in 24 Hours

In the wake of heavily contested elections, opposition-22b2219f323d1ba72ef330b3a153f916″ title=”Mozambique court upholds the governing party's presidential election …”>Mozambique has been grappling with deadly violence that has left at least 21 people, including two police officers, dead in the past 24 hours. The turmoil has unfolded in several locations across the Southeast African country, esis reports.

The country’s Constitutional Council confirmed on Monday (December 23) that the ruling party, Frelimo, which has been in power since 1975, had won the presidential election held on October 9. However, the opposition has vehemently disputed these results, triggering weeks of unrest.

In an address to the press on Tuesday (December 24), Internal Affairs Minister Pascoal Ronda disclosed that "236 serious acts of violence" had been reported across Mozambique. This wave of unrest has resulted in at least 25 injuries, including 13 police officers. Moreover, over 70 individuals have been apprehended in connection with these incidents. According to Ronda, armed groups equipped with sharp weapons and firearms have targeted police stations, polling centers, and other public infrastructure.

In the capital, Maputo, clashes between protesters and police have been reported, with heavy police patrols using armored vehicles to contain unrest in the city center, where hundreds of civilians have taken to the streets. In the aftermath of the Council’s announcement, barricades were set alight on major roadways, engulfing the city in thick smoke. This came just hours after President-elect Daniel Chapo of Frelimo was confirmed as the winner of the election, with his main rival, Renamo’s candidate Venancio Mondlane, alleging widespread election fraud.

In the chaos, scores of shops, banks, supermarkets, gas stations, and public buildings have been looted, with some set ablaze and reduced to smoldering ruins.
