Knife Attack in Oslo: Man Seriously Injured, Perpetrator At Large

Oslo police received multiple reports of a knife attack at 16:51 local time. The incident occurred outdoors in Klosterenga park, according to Oslo Police District operations leader Rune Hekkelstrand, who spoke to NTB. While they are not yet certain that this is the exact scene of the crime, police are conducting extensive technical investigations in the vicinity.

The victim, a Syrian national whose full identity is still being confirmed by authorities, was seriously injured. He is receiving medical treatment and is in a critical but stable condition, having been transferred to a hospital after initial care by paramedics.

In an update at 19:00 on Wednesday, police reported that the victim’s condition is serious but no longer life-threatening. They are still searching for at least one suspect who fled the scene before police arrived.

Witnesses describe the suspect as a man between 20-30 years old, approximately 170-180 cm tall, with a light beard and short curly hair. He was last seen wearing a blue jacket and jeans and is believed to be of Middle Eastern origin.

Police are urging anyone with information or observations about someone matching this description in the Gamlebyen area before or after 16:50 to contact them immediately. They have deployed significant resources, including a police helicopter and K9 units, to search the area.

As of 19:00, no arrests have been made, but police continue to investigate at the scene and have secured the perimeter. They are considering several hypotheses, including the possibility that the involved parties knew each other prior to the incident.

Deadly Projectile Misses Body Armor, Strikes Norwegian Man

In a shocking incident, a projectile failed to penetrate the protective vest of a man in Norway, instead striking him in the left upper arm and subsequently entering his torso, local police reported.

Markus, the victim, was luckier than many in similar situations, with the body armor apparently deflecting what could have been a fatal blow. However, the projectile still caused significant injury, underscoring the dangers faced by those in high-risk professions.

The Norwegian Police Service ( Kripos) is now investigating the incident, intent on understanding how the upper arm protection failed, and why the projectile continued into Markus’ body. This investigation is part of an ongoing effort to improve safety measures for those on the frontline of dangerous tasks.

The news comes as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by those who put their lives on the line to protect others. As the investigation continues, the focus is on learning from this incident to ensure better protection in the future.

"Mismanagement in Multi-unit Residence in Haugesund: Lack of Control Over All Inhabitants"

Haugesund‘s Housing Woes: Multiple Units, Uncontrolled Access

Haugesund, Norway – A recent inspection has raised serious concerns about the safety and management of a multi-residential building in Haugesund. The building, housing several units, has come under scrutiny due to lack of proper control over who has access to the premises.

The alarming discovery was made during a routine inspection, revealing that the building’s security measures fall far short of what is considered acceptable. This lapse in control has left residents feeling vulnerable and raises questions about the safety standards in other such accommodations.

"When we found out that there was no proper system to check who was coming in and out, we were shocked," said a concerned resident, who wished to remain anonymous. "We pay our rent on time, and we expect a certain level of security in return."

Local authorities have been informed of the situation and have commenced an investigation. They have also reassured residents that steps are being taken to rectify the oversight promptly.

"I can assure everyone that the safety and security of our residents is a top priority," said the mayor of Haugesund. "We will work diligently to ensure that this issue is resolved as soon as possible."

The incident has sparked discussions about the need for stricter regulations and enforcement in the management of such properties. Tenants’ rights groups have called for greater transparency and accountability from landlords and property management companies.

"Our goal is to ensure that all tenants in Haugesund, and Norway as a whole, have access to safe, secure, and affordable housing," said a spokesperson for a prominent tenants’ rights organization. "This incident underscores the need for stronger oversight in the rental market."

As the investigation into the security lapse continues, residents in the affected building and beyond are hoping for swift action to ensure their safety and peace of mind.

Facing a Full-On Snowpocalypse on Monday: Patience Required

by Chief Editor January 4, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Breaking: Heavy Snowfall Alert as Severe Weather System Hits Southern and Eastern Norway

A low-pressure system is set to sweep into Norway, bringing significant snowfall to parts of Agder, Telemark, Vestfold, and even stretching into Buskerud. Meteorologist Håkon Mjelstad at the Meteorological Institute warns that accumulations could reach an orange level, totaling 30-40 centimeters in some areas.

The institute has already issued alerts for snowfall, warning of challenging conditions for both road and public transport. Strømforsyningen may also be affected by heavy snow and falling trees.

"It will take time to clear the roads, and there will certainly be delays in train and air traffic. Ensure you allocate plenty of time if you need to travel," Mjelstad advises.

The snowfall is expected to continue into Tuesday, with most precipitation falling as snow initially. Areas west of the Oslofjord and outer regions of Telemark and Agder could receive 30-40 cm, while elsewhere in Southern and Eastern Norway, 15-30 cm is anticipated.

Strong winds accompanying the storm may lead to localized drifting snow, the institute warns.

Elsewhere, yellow alerts are already in place for heavy snowfall in Western Norway and Mid-Norway, with snow showers continuing to sweep in from the coast.

Mjelstad reports that many areas are nearing capacity with snow: "There’s not much room for more. Those who are out shoveling say it’s starting to become a problem. They might need to start clearing snow, as they can’t just keep shoveling it away."

Gusty Wind on Eastern Norway – Three Trees Uprooted, Destroying Multiple Homes in Moss

Breaking: Gale Force Winds Cause Widespread Disruption in Oslo and Surrounds

In a series of dramatic events, Oslo and its surrounding areas have been grappling with extreme winds and subsequent incidents, leaving a trail of disruptions and close calls. Here’s a roundup of the latest developments.

Gale Force Winds Batter Oslo

Winds reached a staggering 37 knots (over 68 km/h) on Friday, according to police reports. The severe gusts led to a container being blown into a plane at Oslo Airport, with emergency services on high alert. However, they quickly scaled back their response as the situation was brought under control.

Central Oslo Braving the Elements

In Oslo’s city center, police temporarily closed parts of Karl Johans gate/Kirkegata and Storgata after ice blocks fell from a roof at Stortorvet. The scene was quickly secured, and the roads reopened by 3 PM.

Fallout: Trees and Taktiles Taking a Tumble

The strong winds have caused chaos across the region, with trees toppling over roads and tram tracks, leading to substantial traffic woes. In a concerning incident, a falling tree destroyed two homes and a parked car in Moss, though thankfully no injuries were reported.

Authorities have been swift in their response, with crews working to clear the debris and restore normalcy. In Sandvika, two lanes of E18 heading towards Drammen were temporarily closed after a tree came crashing down, reopening within an hour.

Public Transport Struggles

The gusts have also wreaked havoc on public transportation systems. Two trees fell across tracks on Oslo’s tram lines 2 and 5, and a roof tile plunged onto the tracks at Hauger station on line 3, causing delays and forcing trams to run on a single track.

Elsewhere, multiple trees were uprooted in Asker, and tiles were blown off a roof in Skøyen, Oslo, further complicating commutes and leading to significant delays.
