"Jeju Air Pilot Alerts Mayday: Bird Strike Preceded Tragic Crash"

Headline: Jeju Air Plane Tragedy: Pilot Ejected Mayday Signal Due to Bird Strike Minutes Before Crash

Article:

In a tragic turn of events, a Jeju Air plane experienced a bird strike just minutes before it crashed at Muan International Airport in South Korea, killing 179 passengers on board. The pilot had ejected a mayday signal due to the incident, raising questions about the fateful crash that has left the aviation community stunned.

The Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport confirmed that the pilot of the Boeing 737-800 aircraft (flight 7C2216) declared a mayday at 08:59 local time. The alarm was raised just two minutes after an air traffic control warning was issued about the bird strike at 08:57.

"After receiving the bird strike warning, the pilot declared a mayday," a ministry spokesperson said, quoted by Yonhap News Agency. The pilot was subsequently given permission to land on the opposite direction of runway 1. However, the aircraft veered off the runway, hitting the surrounding concrete wall, and eventually exploded.

All 175 passengers and four cabin crew members on board were confirmed dead, with only two flight attendants miraculously surviving the crash. The ill-fated flight had departed from Bangkok, Thailand, carrying a total of 181 individuals on board.

Eye-witness footage captured the harrowing moment when the plane arrived without its landing gear, skidding on its belly before bursting into flames. Early reports suggest that a combination of bird strike and adverse weather conditions may have contributed to the accident.

While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, public scrutiny has fallen on the relatively short runway at Muan International Airport, which is currently under construction and measures around 2,500 meters. However, the ministry maintains that the length of the runway was not a factor in the crash, stating that the plane in question could safely land on a runway measuring as little as 1,500 meters.

As the aviation community mourns the loss of life, all eyes are on the investigation process to determine the exact cause of the Jeju Air plane crash and prevent similar tragedies in the future.

I Will Not Forgive Corruptors, It’s Just That Easy

President Prabowo Clarifies Controversial Remarks on Forgiving Corruptors

In a bid to calm the storm sparked by his earlier statement, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has clarified his stance on forgiving corruptors, insisting that he never intended to pardon them without redress. Speaking at an event marking Indonesia‘s National Christmas Celebration at the Indonesia Arena, Gelora Bung Karno Complex (GBK), Senayan, Jakarta on Saturday (28/12) evening, Prabowo set the record straight.

"I’m being misunderstood by some," he began. "They say I want to forgive corruptors. No, that’s not the case. If the corruptors truly repent, what would religious leaders say? They should return what they stole. That’s not me forgiving them, but them making amends."

Prabowo emphasized his desire to conscientize those who’ve committed corruption to swiftly repent and make amends. "I want to urge those who’ve already sinned to repent. All religions teach this. Repent, and return the stolen money. Before we seize your assets, where else would we look?" he stated.

During the same event, Prabowo also rallied Indonesians to collectively uphold justice and truth. Specifically, he challenged the government apparatus to cleanse itself. "I urge all parties who want to protect the people, uphold the truth and justice, and eliminate corruption, to unite with us. The people demand a clean government," he declared. "As I was elected by the people, I order all Indonesian government apparatus to cleanse yourselves."

VP Gibran Rakabuming Raka Attends National Christmas Celebration in Jakarta

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia — Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, arrived at the location of the national Christmas celebration and commemoration, Indonesia Arena, in the GBK complex, Senayan, on Saturday (28/12).

Gibran arrived around 17:30 WIB, accompanied by Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasarudin Umar. Both were dressed in brown batik outfits. The eldest son of President Joko Widodo took the time to greet the congregation in the tribune area, not just for photos, but also to chat and engage with them.

However, until Gibran’s arrival, President Prabowo Subianto had not been seen at the location. The president is scheduled to attend and give a speech.

The peak of the national Christmas celebration is expected to be attended by around 11,000 worshippers on Saturday night. Secretary-General of the National Christmas Commemoration 2024, Chief Commissioner Albertus Rachmad Wibowo, said that the Indonesia Arena’s capacity could reach 15,000, but it was reduced due to the use of the main stage for comfort.

"Indonesia Arena’s capacity can reach 15,000. But because we’re using the stage to ensure comfort, we’ve limited the number of attendees to 11,000," Rachmad said during a press conference ahead of the National Christmas event on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the National Christmas Commemoration, Thomas Djiwandono, said that the event would not only be attended by the president and vice president, but also by several ministers from the Merah Putih Cabinet.

Title: "Chinese Officials Brace for Mysterious Pneumonia Wave as Winter Approaches"

China Prepares for Potential Surge in Unknown Pneumonia Cases

In a proactive move to tackle the possibility of a surge in pneumonia cases with unknown causes, China is rolling out a series of measures. The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced on Friday (27/12) that it is conducting trial programs to actively monitor these cases.

CDC head Lei Zhenglong revealed that China is making progress in building a trigger system to monitor and issue early warnings for infectious diseases, as reported by the Global Times. The country is bolstering its surveillance and accuracy systems for infectious diseases.

To enhance its response capabilities, the CDC plans to establish reporting procedures for laboratories, which it will then verify and handle. This move aims to help authorities prepare protocols to tackle unknown pathogens.

Recent data from China’s health authorities shows a rising trend in acute respiratory illnesses between December 16 and 22. Detected cases include pathogens such as rhinovirus and human metapneumovirus. The human metapneumovirus mainly infects children under 14 years old and is showing an increasing trend, particularly in northern provinces.

As the winter and transitional seasons approach, China may face various respiratory infection diseases. However, another Chinese official, Kan Biao, indicated that the overall number of cases this year is expected to be lower than last year, as per Channel News Asia.

With these proactive measures, China seeks to be better prepared for any potential outbreak of unknown pneumonia cases.
