Los Angeles’ annual celebration of baking is returning this March. KCRW’s PieFest & Contest will take place on March 14 (Pi Day) at the Autry Museum of the American West, marking its 12th year as a free, all-ages event.
The festival, hosted by Evan Kleiman of Good Food, brings together bakers, chefs, families, and food enthusiasts. This year’s competition will be judged by a panel including Will Ferrell, Roy Choi, and more than 20 respected chefs and writers from Los Angeles.
A Longstanding Los Angeles Tradition
PieFest began in 2009 at the Topanga Mall with just over 100 pies entered. Since then, it has grown to include more than 3,500 pies competed over the years, with approximately 500 pies expected in the 2026 contest.
The Pie Contest
Bakers can enter in one of four categories: Apple, Fruit (excluding apple), Cooked Custard, and Junior Baker (ages 12 and under). Each participant will submit one pie for judging and a second for public display.
Introducing the Pie Pageant
Fresh this year, the Pie Pageant will allow contestants to present their pies to attendees, share their baking stories, and engage with the public. Guests will vote for their favorites, with winners announced live on stage.
PieFest Programming
In addition to the contest, PieFest will feature a pie marketplace, chef-led baking demonstrations, and cookbook signings with authors including Bill Addison, Nicole Rucker, Nik Sharma, Sang Yoon, and Valerie Gordon. Attendees can too visit an “Question a Pie Expert” booth hosted by Evan Kleiman.
The event will also include a beer garden, family-friendly activities, DJ sets from KCRW DJs Tyler Boudreaux and Raul Campos, and complimentary access to the Autry Museum galleries.
How To Participate
Local bakers and vendors are invited to participate. The deadline for contest entries is March 7, 2026 at 11:55 PM. More information, including registration details, is available at kcrw.org/pie.
