Bali Ojek Driver Not Only Sexually Assaults, But Also Robs Chinese Tourist of Diamond Ring

Badung, Indonesia – In a brazen and horrifying incident, a bicycle taxi driver (ojek) in Bali not only sexually assaulted a Chinese tourist but also robbed the victim of a diamond ring.

The despicable act occurred on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at around 01:00 WITA (Western Indonesia Time) on Jalan Batu Kandik, Pecatu, Badung, Bali.

The victim, identified by the initials JT, was initially approached by the ojek driver after she and her group of friends had watched a fireworks display at Nyang Nyang Beach. JT and two of her friends were dropped off by their ride, leaving them to find another ojek to get back to their villa on Jalan Labuansait, Pecatu, Badung.

JT then approached an ojek driver who had just dropped off a passenger near the beach. Feeling assured by his presence, she hired him to take her and her two friends back to their accommodation. Little did she know, this decision would change her life forever.

The ojek driver wasn’t taking JT to safety, but to a secluded spot on Jalan Batu Kandik where he proceeded to sexual assault her. In an appalling twist, he then turned his attention to her valuables, stealing her diamond ring.

"After assaulting her, the driver searched her bag and took her diamond ring," reported JT’s friend, KA, on Friday, January 3, 2025.

Devastated and traumatized, JT managed to flee to a nearby resident’s house for help. She later filed a police report with the Bali Police, supported by her friend KA.

Timeline of Events

  • 8:00 PM, January 1, 2025: JT and her group of friends watch fireworks at Nyang Nyang Beach to celebrate the New Year.
  • 9:30 PM: Four of JT’s friends manage to hail an ojek and leave the beach, abandoning JT and two others.
  • 10:00 PM: JT approaches an ojek driver who has just dropped off a passenger and hires him to take her and her two remaining friends back to their villa.
  • 10:30 PM: The ojek driver takes a detour to Jalan Batu Kandik, where he sexually assaults JT and robs her of her diamond ring.
  • 11:00 PM: JT manages to escape and seeks help from a nearby resident.

This horrifying incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of traveler safety and the need for strict regulation and background checks of tour services and drivers in popular tourist destinations like Bali.

Tribute to Brave Officer Andithya Munartono: A True Spirit of Policing

TASIKMALAYA, Indonesia – The passing of Police Commissioner (Aipda) Anumerta Andithya Munartono has left the policing community in Indonesian Java, particularly in Tasikmalaya, with a heavy heart. However, his legacy lives on as a beacon of bravery and dedication, inspiring his peers to uphold the ideals of policing.

Andithya, born on May 31, 1988, in Jakarta, dedicated his life to serving his nation. He was posted at the Pagerageung Polsector under the Tasikmalaya City Police Residency. A native of Kampung Panugaran, Desa Sukapada, Pagerageung, Andithya’s loss is deeply felt by his community.

His heroic actions at Pangandaran Beach in West Java (Jabar) earned him an extraordinary posthumous promotion. Andithya, while off-duty, bravely jumped into action, saving a tourist from drowning before succumbing to exhaustion himself. His courageous act will forever be etched in the annals of Indonesian policing.

The solemn atmosphere at his home village, Desa Sukapada, was filled with sadness yet also pride as family, colleagues, and locals gathered for his final send-off. "The loss of Almarhum Andithya is a great one. His dedication and bravery have set a high standard for us all," lamented neighboring Kodim commander Letkol Inf Gatot JU.

The peculiar silence at the funeral, a stark contrast to the usual lively atmosphere of the village, echoed the profound respect Andithya commanded. The presence of Polda Jabar Bidhumas, Wakapolres, Kasat, Kasubbag Operations, Kasubbag Renuma, and heads of detachments and sub-divisions underscored the significance of his contributions to the police force.

Andithya’s extraordinary courage has earned him another posthumous honor – the rank of Aipda Anumerta, one level higher than his last held rank. His name is immortalized in the Police Chief’s Remuneration List as of January 3, 2025.

"In memory of Andithya, let us carry on his legacy. Let us embody his spirit of courage, dedication, and selfless service. He is our guide, inspiring us to become better servants of the state and the people," urged AKBP Joko Sulistiono, Head of the Tasikmalaya District Police.

Bali Shock: Chinese Tourist Sexually Assaulted and Robbed by Ojek Driver on New Year’s Eve

In a disturbing turn of events, a Chinese tourist, identified as JT, was sexually assaulted and robbed by an ojek (motorcycle taxi) driver after watching the New Year’s Eve fireworks show in Bali, Indonesia. The incident occurred in the Pecatu area of Kuta Selaten, Badung, Bali, early on New Year’s Day (January 1, 2025).

JT reported the harrowing incident to the Bali Police’s Criminal Investigation Division (Ditreskrimum) the following day. According to Detective Ketut Ekajaya from the Bali Provincial Police Public Relations Bureau, the investigation is ongoing as JT’s report was only received recently.

Sexual Assault and Robbery After Fireworks

JT was assaulted and robbed by an ojek driver after watching the fireworks display at Pantai Nyang Nyang, Pecatu. Accompanied by her friend KA, JT gave a detailed account of the events leading up to the attack and robbery.

Initially, JT and her six friends watched the fireworks together. Afterward, they attempted to hail ojecks to take them back to their accommodation at Jalan Labuansait, Pecatu. Four of JT’s friends managed to secure rides, while JT and two others were left waiting.

JT then decided to walk towards the nearest ojek stand. There, she spotted a driver who had just dropped off a passenger. She asked him for a ride back to her villa. The ojek driver agreed and started the journey with JT, leaving her two friends behind without a ride.

Instead of taking JT to her villa, the driver brought her to a secluded area on Jalan Batu Kandik, Pecatu, where he proceeded to assault her in the darkness.

"JT tried to call her friends, but there was no signal," said KA, who accompanied JT to the police station. "JT fought back, but the driver choked her and sexually assaulted her."

Robbed of Jewelry After Assault

After the assault, the ojek driver demanded money from JT. When she refused, he rummaged through her bag. Finding no cash, he spotted a diamond ring on her finger and forcibly removed it.

"After stealing the ring, he drove off, leaving JT behind," KA explained.

JT then managed to flag down a passing resident for help. She called her friends, who took her to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

Bali’s Tarnished Image

The Bali Tourism Board (Dinas Pariwisata) expressed concern over the incident, warning that it could damage Bali’s reputation as a world-class tourist destination.

"The attack on this Chinese tourist is unfortunate, especially at a time when tourist arrivals are increasing," said Tjokorda Bagus Pemayun, head of the Bali Tourism Board. "We hope the police will act swiftly and severely to restore Bali’s image as a safe and welcoming destination."

As the investigation continues, JT has been provided with necessary support and assistance. The Bali Provincial Police encourages anyone with information regarding the suspect to come forward and contact the local authorities.

The names of the victims have been abbreviated to protect their identities.

Police in Indonesia have taken stern action against several of its own in the wake of harrowing reports of harassment and demands for bribes during the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) event held at JIExpo, Kemayoran, Jakarta Pusat. The National Police (Polri) has dismissed three senior-ranking officers, with more disciplinary hearings scheduled in the coming days.

Policemen Dismissed

The dismissed officers, undergoing the deepest disciplinary action, are:

  1. Kombes Donald Simanjuntak – The head of the Narcotics Crime Directorate at the Metro Jaya regional police. His inaction and ineffective oversight allowed subordinates to harass and exploit DWP attendees.
  2. AKBP Malvino Edward Yusticia – A high-ranking officer within the same directorate. Yusticia was involved in the unlawful detentions and extortion cases that occurred during the event.
  3. AKP Yudhy Triananta Syaeful – A former member of the same directorate. Yudhy’s participation in the harrowing incidents has led to his dismissal.

These three were let go following disciplinary hearings held on December 31, 2024 (Donald and Yudhy) and January 2, 2025 (Malvino).

Polri’s Unyielding Stance

Karopenmas, the chief spokesperson for the National Police, Brigjen Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, has clarified that the dismissal of these officers should serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of misconduct. He underscored that the police force will not tolerate any form of misbehavior from its members. Moreover, the National Police has invited external observers from Kompolnas to oversee the proceedings to ensure their transparency and impartiality.

Trunoyudo iterated that Police Chief Jenderal Listyo Sigit Prabowo remains steadfast in his commitment to uphold the integrity of the force by swiftly punishing any transgressions.

On-going Investigations

The disciplinary hearings continue, with the focus now shifting to the roles played by the 3 senior officers. The Sc весьх; surgeries exposed several sketches that commenced during the event. Kombes Donald’s inaction and approval of his subordinates was cited as misconduct, which led to his dismissal. AKP Yudhy, businessman, was linked to demands for bribes during detentions. Similar allegations have emerged against AKBP Malvino.

The police force is currently scrutinizing 18 officers, and 3 have been terminated thus far. More disciplinary actions are expected in the following days, with the list of officers potentially expanding due to recent developments.

Demotion for a Police Officer

Apart from the dismissals, one police officer has received a severe demotion as punishment for their involvement in the case. Kompolnas Choirul Anam confirmed the news of a police official with the initial ‘D’ being demoted by eight ranks, along with a 30-day confined duty. This officer was identified as a significant figure in the case, although specific details on his role remain unclear.

As the probe into the DWP event harassment continues, the National Police reaffirms its commitment to enforcing zero tolerance for misconduct and corruption among its ranks. With more disciplinary hearings scheduled, investigations promise to unearth the full extent of the involved parties’ misdeeds and ensure they face appropriate consequences. The public eagerly awaits more developments in this unfolding story.

Firli Bahuri’s Lawyer Presses for Pemerasan Case Halting as Evidence Remains Incomplete

FIRLI BAHURI’S LEGAL REPRESENTATIVE URGES TO HALT PERMESANAN CASE DUE TO COMPLETE LACK OF EVIDENCE

JAKARTA – Firli Bahuri, fluent in numerous languages, including Mandarin and Japanese, has requested the cessation of his ongoing case involving alleged threats against former Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL), citing incomplete evidence. The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) has affirmed its commitment to conclude the case.

Firli’s lawyer, Ian Iskandar, stated that the case’s evidence files had been repeatedly returned by prosecutors due to incompleteness. Given this, Ian believes police investigators should issue a Suspension of Examination (SP3) as per the Criminal Procedure Code, Article 109(2) of Indonesia’s Criminal Procedure Law Number 8/1981.

"It should be followed up by the investigation team of Polda Metro Jaya by ceasing the investigation and issuing a Suspension of Examination as regulated," Ian explained in an interview on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

Ian revealed that the evidence file for the alleged extortion case has been returned a total of four times, with the last instance occurring on February 2, 2024. Despite this, the investigation team failed to complete and submit the evidence file to the Jakarta Provincial Prosecutor’s Office by November 18, 2024.

Polda Metro Jaya’s Response

Separately, the head of the Criminal Investigation Directorate, Kombes Ade Safri Simanjuntak, assured that the case would be resolved. He indicated that the investigation is being conducted professionally and transparently.

"We assure you that the investigation in this case is being handled professionally and transparently," Ade Safri told reporters.

Ade Safri disclosed that the investigation team is still working on completing the evidence file for the alleged extortion of SYL. The team continues to coordinate with the Jakarta Provincial Prosecutor’s Office regarding the evidence file’s completeness.

"Insha’Allah, we will be able to complete and finalize the case file soon. We are continuously coordinating with the Prosecutorial Office of the Jakarta Provincial Prosecutor’s Office for compliance with P19 instructions," he said.

Additionally, the investigation team has also coordinated with the Anti-Corruption Commission (KPK) regarding the case’s handling. Both Polri and KPK are committed to resolving the case.

"On that occasion, the investigation team also presented the investigation progress made so far, including efforts to comply with P19 instructions, and stated that there are no obstacles in the investigation process and P19 compliance efforts," Ade Safri concluded.

Firli Bahuri is currently facing multiple cases at Polda Metro Jaya, with the primary case involving alleged extortion of SYL. He has been named a suspect in this case, and investigators are also exploring potential money laundering charges (TPPU). Another case involves Firli’s alleged violation of article 36 in conjunction with article 65 of Law Number 30/2002, as amended by Law Number 19/2019, regarding a meeting with parties involved in the case.

Firli has previously filed two pretrial appeals, with the first being rejected and the second withdrawn for completion of the evidence file.

Breaking News: Indonesian Police Ethics Commission Discharges Official for Alleged Misconduct at DWP Concert

In a landmark decision, the Indonesian Police’s Ethics Commission (KKEP) has dismissed a high-ranking officer for alleged misconduct during the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) concert. The officer, AKBP Malvino Edward Yusticia, served as the Chief of Staff (Kasubdit III) at the Metropolitan Jaya Regional Narcotics Investigation Unit (Ditresnarkoba Polda Metro Jaya).

The dismissal, a form of punitive discharge known as ‘Pemberhentian Tanpa Hormat’ (PTDH), was handed down by the chairman of the KKEP, Irjen Yan Sultra Indrajaya, following a thorough investigation. The decision was based on the testimony of nine witnesses during the disciplinary hearing.

"Pemberhentian Tanpa Hormat, or PTDH, has been imposed on the member of the Indonesian National Police," announced the Head of the Public Relations Division, Brigjen Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, during a press conference at the National Police Headquarters.

AKBP Malvino was found to have violated the police’s code of ethics, allegedly involving acts of extortion against concert attendees. The officer was also earlier subjected to an administrative sanction, spending six days in a designated area at the Provost Division’s Provision Unit following the incident.

"The act of misconduct is deemed disgraceful," said Brigjen Trunoyudo.

As per the commission’s ruling, AKBP Malvino has the right to appeal the decision. However, it remains to be seen whether this will lead to a change in the outcome. This disciplinary action sends a strong signal that the Indonesian National Police does not condone unethical behavior within its ranks.

Ex-KPK Chief Firli Bahuri: Polda Metro Jaya Should Drop Corruption Case Against Me

Jakarta CNN Indonesia — Former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Firli Bahuri has stated that the Metropolitan Jaya Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya) should drop the corruption case against him. According to Firli, the investigation has not met the required standards, with the case file being returned to the prosecutor’s office four times due to material deficiencies.

Firli, a former Commissioner General of Police, revealed that the case file was most recently returned on February 2, 2024. He further explained that the Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office sent a letter to Polda Metro Jaya on March 7, 2024, asking for an update on the case’s progress, as it had exceeded the 14-day investigation period. However, until November 18, 2024, Polda Metro Jaya failed to complete the case file, including following prosecutors’ instructions.

As a result, on November 28, 2024, the Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office returned the Letter of Permission to Commence Investigation (SPDP) to Polda Metro Jaya, a decision confirmed in a preliminary court filing by the Legal Aid Institute (MAKI).
