Fatal Rental Car Shooting: TNI AL Vows Transparency as Boss and 3 Members in Hot Seat

Subhead:
BIODIVERSITAS.COM, JAKARTA – The boss of a car rental service was fatally shot in cold blood at a toll rest area, with three members of the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) now under investigation.

The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) reassured the public that they will not cover up any wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of a car rental boss at a toll rest area. They maintain the principle of ‘innocent until proven guilty’ and have pledged full transparency in the investigation.

Four suspects have been named in connection with the case, two of whom have been apprehended while the others remain at large. Intriguingly, three of these suspects are members of the TNI AL, adding complexity to the case.

The incident occurred when the car rental boss attempted to retrieve a stolen Honda Brio from the suspects. The victim had tracked the vehicle’s location using GPS, leading him to the rest area where the suspects were attempting to sell the car. A confrontation ensued, which culminated in a fatal shooting.

TNI AL commander, Laksamana Madya Denih Hendrata, conveyed the Force’s commitment to fair process, ensuring that no wrongdoing will go unpunished. The three naval members involved have been promptly taken into custody and are cooperating with the investigation.

Kapolda Banten, Irjen Suyudi Ario Seto, detailed the events leading up to the shooting. The ordeal began when one of the suspects, Ajat Supriatna, alias ‘AS’, rented the car but subsequently defrauded the owner. He sold the car to another suspect, IH, who then sold it to RH, ultimately ending up in the hands of a TNI AL serviceman named AA.

The car’s GPS, however, remained active, allowing the rental boss to track the stolen vehicle. He traced it to the rest area, where a quarrel broke out, leading to the fatal shooting. The victim, along with another person who tried to intervene, were both shot. The other person, a 59-year-old, survived the attack with injuries.

The Navy has been swift in their response, asserting that they will take stern action against any wrongdoing members. The public can expect a thorough and transparent investigation into this matter. The case continues to be investigated.

The Commander of the Indonesian Navy’s Military Police Center (Danpuspomal), Vice Admiral Sasmita, has shed light on the legal status of three Navy personnel involved in a fatal shooting and carjacking case on the Jakarta-Merak Toll Road‘s Rest Area Km 45. The incident, which took place on January 2, 2025, left one person dead.

In a press conference held at the headquarters of the Indonesian Navy’s Fleet Command, Jakarta, on Monday (January 6, 2025), Vice Admiral Sasmita initially stated that the three Navy personnel—Sergeant First Class (Sertu) AA, Sertu RH, and Corporal BA—have been apprehended. "The three individuals have been handed over to us, and we have received the arrest warrant dated January 4, 2025," he said.

As the investigation is ongoing, the three personnel have not yet been officially named as suspects. However, Sasmita confirmed that they have since been designated as suspects due to the availability of evidence.

When asked about the specific articles of the law they might be facing, Sasmita refrained from providing details. The three Navy personnel have been in custody for 20 days as of now. "The initial 20-day detention has begun, signaled by the signing of the arrest warrant," he explained.

Previous Events

Earlier, the Commander of the Indonesian Navy’s Fleet Command (Pangkoarmada RI), Admiral Hendrata, provided a brief timeline of the events leading to the fatal shooting. According to him, the three Navy personnel were involved in an altercation at the same location on the night of January 2, 2025, around 8:00 PM. The incident started as a case of carjacking involving approximately 15 unidentified individuals, which escalated into a shooting, resulting in one fatality and one injury.

The altercation stemmed from a dispute related to the purchase of a vehicle. One of the sailors is confirmed to have fired the lethal shots. "The incident was caused by a dispute over a car purchase, and one of our personnel is confirmed to have fired the shots, resulting in one fatality and one injury," Hendrata said.

The three Navy personnel involved include Sergeant First Class AA, Sergeant First Class RH, and Corporal BA, who were assigned to the Pangkalan Pondok Dayung base in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.

This is a developing story. More details will follow as the investigation progresses.

TNI AL Officer Accused: Rental Car Theft or Misunderstanding? Puspomal Speaks Out

by Chief Editor January 6, 2025

Headline: TNI: One Navy Officer Allegedly Involved in Shooting That Killed Boss of Car Rental

The Chief of Navy Strategic Command, Laksda Sasmita, reveals the roles of three military personnel allegedly involved in a shooting incident at a toll road rest area in Tangerang, which resulted in the death of the car rental boss (48). The incident was captured on CCTV and sparked public outrage.

In a press conference held at the Headquarters of the Joint Regional Command, Jl. Gunung Sahari, Jakarta, on Monday (6/1/2025), Sasmita confirmed that only one navy officer was involved in the shooting, firing twice. The incident occurred outside a mini-market, as seen in the CCTV footage.

"One navy officer was involved in the shooting, which happened outside, not inside. There was chaos at the scene, and one person was attacked after leaving the toilet, leading to the shooting," Sasmita explained.

The three military personnel involved are identified as Sertu AA, Sertu RH, and Kelasi Kepala BA. Two of them are from Kopaska Armada I, while one is from KRI Bontang. Sasmita mentioned that they are colleagues and that their roles in the incident are not clearly defined yet.

Interestingly, the shooter and the victim are related. The shooter, Sertu AA, is the victim’s uncle. "The shooter was the victim’s uncle. He’s the one seen approaching the victim in the CCTV footage," Sasmita added.

At present, there’s no evidence suggesting the involvement of the three military personnel in the car theft. However, further investigations will be conducted if any new evidence surfaces.

The firearm used in the shooting belongs to the navy, used by Sertu AA as an aider-de-camp (ADC). "The gun is an inventory that comes with the job due to AA’s role as an ADC," explained the Commander of the Joint Regional Command, Laksdya TNI Denih Hendrata.

The shooting incident was triggered by the car rental boss trying to retrieve a Toyota Brio that was supposed to be returned but was moved to Tangerang without authorization. The car had been sold to RH and then to AA, a navy personnel, for 40 million IDR after being initially sold by the rental boss’s client to RH for 23 million IDR.

The incident unfolded on Thursday (2/1) when the rental boss and his friends found the car at a toll road rest area and attempted to take it back, leading to a scuffle that ended in the fatal shooting.

Title: Banten Police Explain Origins of Shooting Incident That Killed Car Rental Boss on Tol Tangerang-Merak

In a press conference at the Koarmabar headquarters in Jakarta, Banten Police Chief Irjen Suyudi Ario Seto revealed that the shooting incident that claimed the life of a car rental boss on the Tangerang-Merak toll road began with the rental of a Honda Brio. The incident, which is being investigated under Article 378 of the Criminal Code (KUHP), was initially reported as a possible case of vehicle theft.

On 2 January 2025, Agam Muhammad Nasrudin, a resident of Taman Rajeg, reported the suspected theft of a Honda Brio from a rental shop in Rajeg. The vehicle, a Honda Brio in orange with the license plate B-2669-KZO, was rented by a resident of Pandeglang with the initials AS.

However, the rented car was later handed over to an individual with the initials IH, who also prepared fake KTP and KK cards in the name of AS. Subsequently, the car was sold to RH for IDR 23 million, who then sold it to a Navy officer with the initials SY. The car changed hands once more, being sold to AA, another Navy officer, for IDR 40 million.

Currently, four officers from Cinangka Police Station, including the head of the station, are being investigated by the Cilegon Regional Police over reports from the victim’s family.

In a separate statement, Navy Chief Laksdya TNI Denih Hendrata confirmed that three Navy personnel are involved in the incident. The personnel, initially reported to have been beaten at the toll road rest area, are now suspected to be connected to the shooting incident.

Navy Chief Denih also revealed that the incident stemmed from a dispute over the sale of a car, involving multiple transactions and fake documents. The Navy is cooperating with the Banten Police to investigate the case.

Meanwhile, police have arrested Ajat Supriatna and another individual in connection with the alleged theft of the rental car. They have been named suspects in the case. The investigation has identified two clusters of perpetrators: one involved in the car theft, and another connected to the shooting of the rental boss.
