In a recent turn of events, former PDIP politician Effendi Simbolon has dismissed allegations that the recent designation of PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto as a suspect in the Harun Masiku corruption case is a form of politicization of law and a plot engineered by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Instead, Simbolon contends that Jokowi has been covertly assisting Hasto in evading the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) scanner.

"Jokowi has been subtly helping Hasto all this time," Simbolon insistently declared during an event at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development in Jakarta, as reported by detik.com. "Until the end of the previous KPK leadership’s term (2019-2024), Hasto’s case was never pursued, in my understanding."

However, PDIP’s spokesperson, Guntur Romli, challenged Simbolon’s assertion, maintaining that it was Hasto who consistently supported Jokowi. Guntur revealed that Hasto declined offers for ministerial positions from Jokowi during both of his presidential terms, adhering to his commitment to maintaining the PDIP secretary-general post’s independence and distance from the executive power.

"As PDI Perjuangan’s Secretary-General, Mas Hasto fully supported and assisted Jokowi, following the instructions of our party’s Chairperson, Ibu Megawati Soekarnoputri," Guntur confirmed on Thursday (9/1).

Guntur further suggested that by making such statements, Simbolon has inadvertently strengthened Jokowi’s position in managing the case at KPK. He also criticized some PDIP elites for persistently criticizing Jokowi, despite his constant support for the party. Meanwhile, Jokowi evaded responding to Simbolon’s claims, instead questioning why he should defend himself against baseless allegations.

Previously, Simbolon had called for Megawati’s resignation as PDIP’s chairperson, following Hasto’s designation as a suspect in the corruption case. Despite meeting with Jokowi in Solo a few days afterward, the president dismissed the meeting as a mere social call, refusing to discuss PDIP matters.

Jokowi Tak Ikut Perkumpulan Mantan Gubernur Jakarta di Balai Kota, Isyarat Politik atau Kebetulan?

Presiden Joko Widodo (Jokowi) tidak ikut serta dalam pertemuan mantan gubernur Jakarta yang diadakan di Balai Kota Jakarta pada Selasa (31/12/2024). Ia memilih untuk tidak hadir di acara tersebut, meskipun telah diundang oleh pemerintah provinsi Jakarta.

Pertemuan ini bertujuan untuk mengikuti acara Bentang Harapan JakAsa, yang merupakan bagian dari rangkaian kegiatan untuk menyambut Tahun Baru 2025. Acara ini diadakan oleh pemerintah provinsi Jakarta dan salah satu program utamanya adalah pemasangan kain putih sepanjang 500 meter yang terbentang di Balai Kota dan Monas. Kain putih tersebut akan diisi dengan pesan-pesan harapan dari masyarakat Jakarta sebagai simbol optimisme menyongsong tahun baru.

Mantan gubernur Jakarta yang hadir pada acara tersebut antara lain Sutiyoso (Bang Yos), Fauzi Bowo (Foke), Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok), Djarot Saiful Hidayat, dan Anies Baswedan. Namun, Jokowi memilih untuk tidak datang dan mengungkapkan alasan bahwa ia sudah menyampaikan permintaan maaf tidak bisa datang karena ada acara kecil-kecilan di Kota Solo, Jawa Tengah, pada Kamis (2/1/2025) siang.

Jokowi juga menepis kabar soal anggapan tidak harmonisnya hubungan dirinya dengan Anies dan Ahok. Ia mengaku bahwa dirinya baik-baik saja dengan keduanya, meskipun ia telah lama tidak bertemu secara langsung dengan keduanya.

"Ow.. baik-baik saya, dengan semuanya. Baik-baik saya dengan semuanya, dengan Pak Ahok dan Pak Anies," kata Jokowi. Namun, ia mengakui bahwa dirinya telah lama tidak bertemu secara langsung dengan keduanya. "Ya setelah beberapa bulan ini, belum ketemu," ungkapnya.

Acara Bentang Harapan JakAsa diikuti oleh gubernur dan mantan gubernur Jakarta, serta berbagai tokoh masyarakat. Mereka berkumpul untuk menyambut tahun baru 2025 dengan pesan harapan dari masyarakat Jakarta.

Jokowi Unruffled as OCCRP Lists Him Among Most Corrupt Leaders

Solo, Indonesia – President Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, has maintained his composure after being listed among the world’s most corrupt leaders by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP). The Indonesian president responded with a laugh, brushing off the allegation with a request for evidence.

"He-he-he…, yes, corrupt, corrupt what, who’s being corrupted, right? You should prove it, right?" Jokowi quipped while laughing, responding to a journalist’s query at his residence in Solo, as reported by detikJateng.

Jokowi acknowledged the prevalent spread of slander and malicious framing, much of which lacks substantial evidence. He urged for such accusations to be backed by concrete proof.

"Nowadays, there are so many slanders, so many malicious framings, so many accusations without any evidence, right? That’s the situation now," Jokowi remarked.

When asked if there were political undertones to the accusation, Jokowi laughed again, suggesting that such malicious framings could originate from various sources, including non-governmental organizations, political parties, or other associations.

The OCCRP previously released its Person of the Year 2024 list, which includes finalists in the categories of organized crime and corruption. While Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad was crowned the winner, Jokowi was among the five finalists who made the cut based on global reader and journalist votes.

Other finalists in the category included Kenyan President William Ruto, former Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and Indian businessman Gautam Adani.
