Title: Donald Trump‘s Inauguration as the 47th US President Marked by a Smooth Transition

Article Body:

In an amicable display of democratic transition, Donald Trump, at 78, has made history by taking office as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025, succeeding an eventful tenure of Joe Biden, who leaves office at the age of 82.

President Biden, reflecting on his term, has lauded it as "historical" and expressed his confidence in a peaceful and orderly transfer of power to the incoming administration. However, with less than a month left in his term, the question remains: what significant actions can Biden undertake in his final days?

Eirik Løkke, a US expert and Civita advisor, tells ABC Nyheter that Biden’s options for major political initiatives are limited at this stage. "Very little can be achieved politically in the remaining time," Løkke explains. He speculates that Biden might attempt to rush through as much military aid to Ukraine as possible, but he stresses that the primary focus should be ensuring a smooth and peaceful transition to the Trump administration.

"This is not the time for Biden to rally a large crowd to storm Congress with the intent to challenge the election results," Løkke warns.

In the waning days of his presidency, Biden has been active in his use of the pardon power. In early December, he pardoned 39 individuals and commuted the sentences of over 1,000 others. Notably, this includes his son, Hunter Biden, a decision that seemed to contradict Biden’s previous stance. Løkke criticizes this move, stating, "It’s a very unwise action that will tarnish his legacy and define the final chapter of his presidency."

Løkke anticipates more pardons before Biden leaves office, as it’s a common practice for outgoing presidents to exercise their clemency powers in their final weeks.

Despite controversies, Biden’s administration leaves a marked legacy. Løkke expects Biden to be remembered for accomplishments such as the signing of the Inflation Reduction Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the expansion of social welfare programs. However, Løokka also predicts that Biden’s decisions, like pardoning his son, will also weigh heavily on his presidential legacy.
