Transformed: The ‘Eagle Bridge’ Underpass Revamped with Art and Warmth
Sofia‘s ‘Eagle Bridge’ underpass, connecting ‘Tsarigradsko Shosse’ Boulevard with Borisova Garden, has undergone a remarkable transformation, courtesy of Sofia Municipality. This once dingy space is now a bright, modern hub adorned with reproductions of paintings by Josef Oberbauer, capturing the essence of old Sofia.
The underpass has been meticulously cleaned and renovated, with old lamellar ceilings replaced, energy-efficient LED lighting installed, and marble floors restored to their original glory. Graffiti has been removed from the walls, giving the space a clean, welcoming feel.
Oberbauer’s artworks, whichгодня dokument the city’s history, now grace the underpass. Passersby can marvel at these pieces, transporting them back to Sofia’s past and connecting them with its rich history.
Notably, Bulphoto’s images of shelter-seeking dogs from Sofia’s animal shelters and artwork by children from the city’s social services adorn the walls. Each piece will soon be accompanied by a QR code, providing additional information and turning this space into an interactive, engaging gallery.
The project is set to expand, with plans to renovate the second ‘Eagle Bridge’ underpass as part of Sofia Municipality’s drive to revitalize public spaces and create more cultural and social hubs in the city.
