The Russian occupiers had unlawfully decided to set up camp in a private home, likely hoping to find discreet cover. Unfortunately for them, the residential location offered no shelter from the relentless Ukrainian forces. The Ukrainian military stormed the house, leaving it completely destroyed and beyond repair. It was a stark reminder that no place is safe from the wrath of the Ukrainian military when it comes to protecting their homeland.
A Russian soldier, who fortunately survived the attack, lamented his losses in a video statement. "New Year’s Day today. (The Ukranians) hit our house. Everything burned down: our belongings, our armor… everything," he said, surveying the smoldering wreckage through a thick haze of smoke.
In the morning, he clarified that the only thing left intact was the basement, where he had taken refuge during the attack, a sanctuary that saved his life.
