Ukraine’s President Zelenksy Discusses Electricity Imports, Energy Stability, and Kadrovo Reshuffles
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed details of his discussions with Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and Energy Minister German Galushchenko, focusing on electricity imports from the European Union (EU) and maintaining energy stability. The President’s remarks, shared via his official Facebook page, underscore Ukraine’s commitment to strengthening its energy ties with Europe while navigating geopolitical challenges.
Electricity Imports from the EU
Zelensky confirmed that he has discussed the import of electricity from the EU, with around 19% of Ukraine’s total energy volume currently coming from this source via Slovakia. The President highlighted that negotiations are ongoing with other neighboring EU countries to further diversify Ukraine’s energy imports.
Maintaining European Energy Rules and Stability
In addition to electricity imports, Zelensky emphasized the importance of preserving the stability of the unified European energy system and adhering to European energy rules. In response to Russian President Vladimir Putin‘s recent discussions with former Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Zelensky reiterated that European rules should supersede any individual ties with Moscow.
Upcoming Kadrovo Reshuffles
The President hinted at upcoming significant personnel changes, stating that relevant decrees are in the final stages of preparation. Zelensky expressed gratitude to those involved in the process, suggesting that these changes could be instrumental in shaping Ukraine’s future trajectory.
Ukraine’s Gas Transit Decision and Słovakia’s Reaction
Reminding readers of Ukraine’s impending cessation of Russian gas transit to Europe, Zelensky reaffirmed his stance that Ukraine will only facilitate the transportation of gas that is not of Russian origin. This stance has been met with resistance from Slovakia, with Prime Minister Robert Fico threatening to halt electricity supplies to Ukraine. However, Zelensky dismissed these threats, suggesting that such actions could ultimately harm Slovakia.
