Agent Attack: Jugend Set Fire to Agents During New Year’s Eve Patrol in The Hague
In an unsettling turn of events, three on-duty police agents found themselves targeted by a group of juveniles while cycling along the bustling Marktweg in The Hague, just last year’s New Year’s Eve. The agents, who had been cruising ahead, encountered an unexpected threat that left them shaken but unharmed.
One of the youths, identified as Bourak M., ignited an illicit firework known as ‘nitraat’ and pursued the officers with the explosive device in hand. An eyewitness to the frenzied scene, an agent recounted, "I saw him hurl the lit firework in an arc, heading straight for the heads of my colleagues. The firework detonated just two meters above their heads, creating an ear-piercing blast."
Fortunately, the rapid response of the agents and their immediate evasive actions prevented any injuries. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers law enforcement personnel face daily, even during celebratory gatherings.
Following the incident, local authorities have emphasized the importance of responsible behavior during public events and have urged the public to respect law enforcement officers. Ongoing investigations aim to bring those responsible to justice.
As The Hague continues to grapple with the aftermath of this violent incident, citizens express hope for a safer and more peaceful city. The city’s police force remains steadfast in their commitment to maintain order and ensure the safety of all its residents.
