German security authorities are investigating an arms cache discovered in a forest near Berlin, which investigators suspect was intended for targeted killings on behalf of Russia. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt confirmed that a suspect was detained in Romania last year in connection with the case and planned parcel bomb attacks.
German security forces uncovered a stash of handguns and ammunition buried in a wooded area on the outskirts of Berlin after domestic intelligence became aware of the site last October, according to official reports. News outlets including the Süddeutsche Zeitung and public broadcasters NDR and WDR reported that the weapons were intended to facilitate targeted killings on behalf of Moscow.
Surveillance of the Berlin Arms Stash and the Romanian Connection
After police rendered the two discovered pistols inoperable, authorities left the cache intact at the forest site to monitor potential activity. Officers placed the location under covert surveillance for months, though no suspects were ever seen approaching the weapons, indicating that the alleged operatives likely realized the drop point had been compromised. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt confirmed the ongoing investigation during a press briefing, noting that prosecutors are currently examining a suspect detained in Romania.
Dobrindt stated that the detained individual is also being held in connection with planned parcel bomb attacks in Romania, a detail that German authorities are weighing as they evaluate a potential extradition request. The interior minister described the suspect as a low-level agent
who remained largely unaware of the broader command structure directing the operations. Authorities have detained several similar operatives over the course of the year, including a citizen from Kazakhstan.

While Interior Minister Dobrindt declined to confirm direct state involvement in the forest arms cache, he emphasized that Germany remains a daily target of hybrid warfare.
The Russian government has dismissed the allegations surrounding the latest investigations. Officials at the Russian embassy in Berlin characterized the claims as a hastily fabricated provocation
designed to fuel a new wave of anti-Russian hysteria in Germany,
adding that such incidents serve primarily the interests of Kyiv and European military strategists.
