Israeli Forces Arrest Gaza‘s Last Standing Hospital Director

In a significant development during the ongoing military operation, Israeli forces have arrested the director of Gaza’s last functional main hospital in the north. Palestinian health authorities confirmed the incident.

The director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, Hossam Abu Safiyeh, along with dozens of medical staff, was taken to a detention center for interrogation. This arrest comes amidst escalating tensions in the region, with Israel launching an operation in the area, claiming it’s a key stronghold for terrorist organizations. Hamas, however, has denied the presence of its militants in the hospital and accused Israel of assaulting the facility.

The raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital has reportedly rendered it nonfunctional, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). In a statement on its website, the WHO reported that key departments were severely burned and destroyed during the incursion.

In the past 24 hours, at least 48 people have been killed in Gaza, the Ministry of Health in the Hamas-led government announced. This brings the total death toll since the start of the war over 14 months ago to 45,484, with 108,090 people injured.

Meanwhile, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto expressed hope for positive developments in the conflict in the coming weeks. He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the Villaggio Italia in Abu Dhabi. The Italian Navy’s training ship Amerigo Vespucci, he said, would soon be sailing through the Red Sea towards Jeddah, escorted by the Aspides mission. Minister Crosetto emphasized the importance of preventing any incidents that could compromise peace efforts.

The arrest of the hospital director has raised serious concerns about healthcare access in the northern Gaza Strip.maa
