Title: 45 Malaysian Nationals Reportedly Victims of Alleged Pemerasan at Djakarta Warehouse Project 2024
In a significant turn of events, the National Police’s Professional and Security Division (Propam Polri) has reported that a total of 45 Malaysian nationals are believed to have been victims of an alleged extortion incident during their attendance at the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) 2024 in Jakarta.
Speaking at the National Police Headquarters on Tuesday, Prophet Division Head Irjen Abdul Karim disclosed that, "Through our investigation and identification process, we have scientifically confirmed that 45 Malaysian nationals were involved in this alleged incident."
Karim also revealed that the estimated value of the seized evidence totals to IDR 2.5 billion. He emphasized, "Please do not rely on previous reports that often speculate the amount."
The Propam Polri Division has received two official reports from Malaysian nationals regarding these alleged extortion cases. Karim assured that the division is closely monitoring the situation and will handle these cases meticulously.
Earlier, a total of 18 police officers from Metropolitan Jakarta Police, Metro Jakarta Central Police, and Kemayoran Metropolitan Police were arrested in connection with this alleged extortion incident involving Malaysian nationals who were attending DWP 2024 at JIExpo, Kemayoran, Jakarta.
Following the event, DWP’s Instagram account was flooded with complaints from attendees, predominantly those from Malaysia. Many expressed disappointment due to the stiff restrictions, while some claimed they were extorted by police officers posing as civilians in the crowd.
DWP 2024 took place from December 13 to 15. Following the event, police have launched an investigation and will not tolerate any wrongdoing by its members.
