In a tale of survival that has left Zimbabweans in awe, a 7-year-old boy has been found alive after spending five days in the wilds of Matusadona National Park, a wildlife reserve known for its lion population. The boy, Tinotenda Pundu, is believed to have survived by eating wild fruits and drinking water from dug-out riverbanks.

The Disappearance

Tinotenda went missing on December 27, 2024, near his home in a village bordering the national park. Authorities, local residents, and park rangers launched a search operation, but heavy rain initially hindered their efforts.

The Journey

In an astonishing feat, the young boy is believed to have traversed a grueling 49 kilometers through the park’s harsh terrain, filled with lions and other wild animals. He managed to avoid predators by sleeping on elevated rocks, a strategy praised by local MP Mutsa Murombedzi as "very smart."

The Discovery

Tinotenda’s footprints were spotted on December 30, leading search parties to his location the following day. He was found weak but uninjured, and is now receiving medical care at a local hospital.

A Community United

The boy’s safe return has been hailed as a miracle by the community. Murombedzi commended the collective effort in finding Tinotenda, highlighting how villagers used drums to guide him towards the sound.

Matusadona National Park, situated near Lake Kariba, is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including lions, leopards, elephants, and buffaloes. Despite its dangers, the park has proven to be no match for the resilience and resourcefulness of young Tinotenda.

Bogor Teen‘s Body Found After Fatal Swimming Incident

The search for a 13-year-old boy who fell into the Ciliwung River in Sukasari, Bogor Timur, Bogor City, came to an end on Saturday, December 28, 2024. The teenager was found deceased under the Balai Binearum City Bridge.

Bogor City Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Head Hidayatullah confirmed the discovery at around 3:30 PM WIB. "The body was found by the search and rescue team and local residents," he said.

Previously, the teenager, identified as Faisal (13), had gone missing after being swept away by the strong Ciliwung River current while attempting to swim across on Wednesday, December 26, 2024, around 12:30 PM WIB. Despite the efforts of his friends to rescue him, Faisal was unable to stay afloat due to the river’s swift current.

The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of swimming in fast-moving bodies of water. The family and friends of the young victim are in our thoughts during this difficult time.

Surabaya Residents Battle Heavy Rains as Floods Hit Several Neighborhoods

Surabaya, Indonesia – A deluge of rain accompanied by strong winds has lashed Surabaya since around 3:30 PM WIB, causing floods in several areas. Residents are grappling with flash floods and rising waters in various parts of the city.

Flooding has been reported in numerous neighborhoods, including Jalan Kartini, Dukuh Pakis, Dukuh Kupang Timur, Girilaya, Gayungan, Ketintang, and Margorejo. The heavy rain, which has been pouring for nearly four hours, is the primary cause of these floods.

Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi confirmed the presence of floods and puddles in several spots. He explained that several critical points, such as Gayungan, Ketintang, and Margorejo, are no longer able to accommodate the rainwater after over three hours, nearing four hours of continuous downpour.

The most severely affected area is Surabaya Selatan, where the rain has been heaviest and shows no signs of abating. "In Dharmawangsa, Srikana, the water levels have already started to rise. It’s being diverted into the main river, but it’s still not enough. The water level at Wonorejo has already reached 185 [cm]. It’s at its max capacity and can no longer hold more water," Eri noted.

Even the city’s rivers, including the prominent Sungai Jagir, are overflowing. "The water flow can’t enter the rivers. The Rolak area in Sungai Wonokromo is already full, and it can’t take in any more water because Jombang and Mojokerto have opened their floodgates, causing all the rivers to be filled to the brim. We’re all waiting for our turn to let the water into the main river, but we can’t because every river’s spillway is already filled," Eri revealed.

As the city grapples with the aftermath of the heavy rain, residents and authorities continue to assess the situation. Efforts are underway to mitigate the impact of the floods and ensure the safety of Surabaya’s residents.
