Headline: Indonesia Launches 190 Kitchens Nationwide for Free Nutritious Meals Program

Subhead: Starting today, 190 Satellite Food Service Units (SPPG) across 26 provinces will supply meals for the Free Nutritious Meal Program.

Article:

The Indonesian government has inaugurated 190 Satellite Food Service Units (SPPG), also known as ‘dapur’, to commence the Free Nutritious Meal (Makan Bergizi Gratis – MBG) program. These units, spread across 26 provinces, began operations today, Monday, January 6, 2025.

The Satellite Food Service Units are the implementing bodies of the MBG program, responsible for supplying meals to the beneficiaries. The National Nutrition Agency (Badan Gizi Nasional – BGN) has confirmed that these 190 locations are ready for operation as of January 6, 2025.

The BGN’s Head of Legal and Public Relations, Kombes Pol Lalu Muhammad Iwan Mahardan, revealed this information in an official statement on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

West Java tops the list with the highest number of SPPG locations, at 57. Other provinces with these units include Aceh, Bali, Banten, DIY, Jakarta, Gorontalo, Central Java, East Java, and more.

Previously, the Head of the National Nutrition Agency, Dadan Hindayana, had assured that the Free Nutritious Meal Program would begin on January 6, 2025. Initially, the program aims to reach around 3 million beneficiaries, with plans to expand to 17 million by the end of 2025.

The Free Nutritious Meal Program, a flagship initiative of President Prabowo Subianto, is expected to provide nutritious meals to underprivileged children and families, ensuring they have access to balanced and adequate food.

Tonight’s Meteor Shower: Quadrantids Peak. Here’s the Schedule and How to Watch

by Chief Editor January 3, 2025

Subheading:
Here’s Your Guide to Witnessing This Year’s First Major Meteor Shower

Article:

Embark on a celestial journey as the spectacular Quadrantid meteor shower reaches its zenith tonight, January 3rd. Brace yourself for a stunning celestial display, as NASA deems this one of the strongest meteor showers of the year. The peak of this awe-inspiring event will unfold tonight and continue into the early hours of tomorrow, January 4th.

Why the Quadrantid Shower Stands Out

The Quadrantid meteor shower is renowned for its swift meteors, which can streak across the night sky at speeds up to 93,000 mph. Unlike other prominent showers like the Perseids or Leonids, the Quadrantid’s peak is relatively brief, lasting only about six hours. However, during this intense period, you might witness up to 120 meteors per hour, transforming the night into a breathtaking light show.

Origins and Visibility

Named after the now-obsolete constellation Quadrans Muralis, the Quadrantid meteor shower hails from the debris of Comet 2003 EH1. This cosmic phenomenon is primarily visible from the Northern Hemisphere, including parts of Indonesia like Papua, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi. For the best viewing experience, find a clear, dark sky, and look to the northeast around midnight.

Watching the Quadrantids

To watch the Quadrantid meteor shower, simply look up at the night sky, focusing on the area where the meteors seem to originate, known as the radiant. You don’t need any special equipment; just let your eyes adjust to the darkness for about 20-30 minutes, and the meteors will begin to appear. Enjoy the show!

Jayapura Urges Local Communities to Actively Participate in HIV/AIDS Management

The Jayapura City Government in Papua is calling on local communities to actively participate in managing HIV/AIDS in their respective areas. This call comes as a result of the city’s concern over the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS cases.

Penjabat Wali Kota Jayapura Christian Sohilait emphasized the need for collaboration between the government and various communities in handling HIV/AIDS to prevent the number of cases from increasing. As of June 2024, the number of HIV/AIDS cases in Jayapura City reached 8,000.

Sohilait praised the efforts of local communities such as Pelangi Papua, We Care, Iwaja, and Jejaca for their active involvement in combating HIV/AIDS in Jayapura City.

Binton Nainggolan, Secretary of the AIDS Handling Commission (KPA) in Jayapura City, echoed Sohilait’s sentiment, stating that active participation from communities would bolster their efforts to decrease the number of HIV/AIDS cases in the area. Nainggolan also called on related institutions to join forces in addressing this issue.

Looking ahead, Nainggolan disclosed that they will be preparing guidelines for relevant institutions to work together in managing and combating HIV/AIDS in Jayapura City.

Subhead:Nine days after disappearing while pursuing an armed criminal group, the family of a missing police officer in Teluk Bintuni, Papua Barat, offers a reward for any information on Iptu Tomi Samuel Marbun.

Teluk Bintuni, Papua Barat – The family of Iptu Tomi Samuel Marbun, the missing Kasat Reskrim (Criminal Investigation Unit Chief) of the Teluk Bintuni Police Resort, has launched a desperate search for the officer who went missing nine days ago while pursuing an armed criminal group in the region.

Iptu Tomi was last seen on Wednesday, December 18, when he and a team of officers attempted to arrest Marten Aikinggin, a wanted member of a criminal group. While attempting to cross the Rawara River to reach the location, Iptu Tomi reportedly slipped and was swept away by the strong current.

The family has since been distributing pamphlets on social media, offering a reward for any information leading to Iptu Tomi’s whereabouts. The reward includes five Johnson water pumps (mesin tempel) and an unspecified cash amount.

"We confirm that the pamphlet is genuine," stated Monterry Marbun, Iptu Tomi’s brother, in an interview with detikcom on Friday, December 27. Monterry urged anyone with information to provide it, expressing his family’s sincere hope for their loved one’s safe return.

In the pamphlet, the family appeals to anyone who might have seen Iptu Tomi being carried away by the river current, from the Cempedeak River towards the Rawara/Muara Rawara River confluence. They express their gratitude for any information, no matter how small.

Authorities are continuing the search for the missing officer, with Monterry hoping for additional support from the National Police Chief, Jenderal Listyo Sigit Prabowo. He emphasized his family’s hope that Iptu Tomi will be found safe and sound, requesting prayers from all sides for his brother’s well-being.

"We, the family of Iptu Tomi, hope that the search will be carried out comprehensively. We ask for more attention from the Papua Barat Police," Monterry added.

Fatal Police Chase: Officer Swept Away in Papua Barat River While Pursuing Armed Criminal Group

Iptu Tomi S Marbun, a police officer from Teluk Bintuni, drowned in the Rawara River while chasing a notorious KKB leader in Papua Barat.

Article:

In a tragic turn of events, a police officer from Papua Barat’s Teluk Bintuni district has lost his life while pursuing a member of a notorious armed criminal group (KKB). Iptu Tomi S Marbun, a chief inspector at the Teluk Bintuni Police Resort’s Criminal Investigation Unit, was swept away by the Rawara River on December 18 while leading an operation against DPO KKB Marten Aikinggin.

The joint TNI-Polri task force was conducting a pursuit in Meyah Lama, Moskona Barat, when Iptu Tomi slipped and fell into the river, ultimately being carried away by the strong current. The incident occurred as the team was closing in on Marten Aikinggin, who was hiding in a nearby plantation.

Following the incident, the task force was split into two groups. One team searched for Iptu Tomi along the riverbank, while the other continued the operation against Marten Aikinggin. The second team successfully apprehended the KKB leader at around 8:00 AM WIT, after a brief skirmish.

Marten Aikinggin, also known as the commander of the Moskona Battalion, is responsible for the murder of four road workers in the Trans Bintuni-Maybrat project. Despite his capture, the search for Iptu Tomi continues, with the joint task force and SAR teams combing the river with the assistance of two helicopters.

Kombes Ongky Isgunawan, the head of public relations for the Papua Barat Provincial Police, expressed his condolences and vowed to continue the search for Iptu Tomi. "We are doing our utmost to find Iptu Tomi Marbun. We ask for everyone’s prayers that he may be found safe and sound," he said.

The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in their relentless pursuit of justice and peace in Papua Barat.

This is a developing story. More updates will follow as they become available.

Peak Rainy Seasons in 2024-2025: BMKG’s Predictions

by Chief Editor December 23, 2024
written by Chief Editor

Headline: Indonesia‘s BMKG's Advisory</strong>"</p>”>Peak Rainy Season: Timing and Regional Distribution in 2024/2025

As the rainy season reaches its peak, understanding when and where it will be most intense can help communities brace for potential flooding. The Indonesian Meteorology, Climate and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has released predictions for the peak rainy season, which is expected to occur towards the end of and early in the new year.

When is the Peak Rainy Season?

According to BMKG, the peak rainy season for 2024 is projected to occur in November-December 2024, followed by January-February 2025. Unlike previous years, this year’s peak rainy season is expected to arrive earlier than normal. However, the accumulated rainfall during this period is predicted to be within the normal category, indicating no excessively wet or dry conditions.

Regional Distribution During Peak Rainy Season

The peak rainy season will affect different regions at different times:

  • November-December 2024: The western part of Indonesia, including Sumatra, the southern coastal region of Java, and Kalimantan, will experience the peak of the rainy season during this period.
  • January-February 2025: The eastern part of Indonesia, including Lampung, northern Java, parts of Sulawesi, Bali, NTB, NTT, and most of Papua, will see the peak of the rainy season during these months.

Comparison of Peak Rainy Season with Normal Conditions

BMKG’s "Rainy Season Forecast 2024/2025 in Indonesia" book predicts that approximately 332 out of 700 Zona Musim (ZOM) (48%) will experience a peak that aligns with normal conditions. These regions include most of Sumatra, central Java, northern Kalimantan, Timor NTT, northern Maluku, and most of Papua.

Around 246 ZOM (35%) are expected to have an earlier-than-usual peak, including parts of Sumatra, most of Java, central Kalimantan, central to northern Sulawesi, Bali, NTB, southern Maluku, Maluku’s coastal areas, western Kalimantan, and the northern part of Merauke, Papua.

Lastly, about 121 ZOM (17%) may experience a delayed peak compared to normal conditions. These regions include eastern Kalimantan’s coastal areas, parts of NTT, southern Sulawesi, central Maluku, Sorong, western Papua, and most of Papua.

La Niña Phenomenon

ENSO predictions indicate a potential La Niña event from late 2024 to March 2025. Generally, La Niña tends to bring wetter conditions to Indonesia. However, its impact can vary across different regions. La Niña occurs when sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Equatorial region are cooler than usual, potentially increasing rainfall in Indonesia if local sea temperatures are warm.

Stay informed and prepared for the upcoming peak rainy season to ensure your safety and the well-being of your community.

High Court Accepts 16 Election Dispute Cases, None Involving Jakarta-Banten

by Chief Editor December 13, 2024
written by Chief Editor

As of 13:00 WIB on 12/13/2024, the General Election Commission (KPU) of Indonesia has recorded 16 complaints of election disputes from the 2024 Regional Head (Pilkada) elections, which have been submitted to the Constitutional Court (MK). Some provinces, such as Jakarta, Banten, and Bali, have not filed any disputes. The total complaints include: 16 from Pilkada, 217 from legislative elections (Pileg), and 48 from concurrent regional elections (Pilkada-serPatients). KPU has issued Decision KPU No. 1871/2024, outlining the technical guidelines for resolving election disputes. Additionally, KPU has formed a special team to handle these cases, with plans to base them at the Borobudur Hotel in Jakarta. The team will consist of litigation, administration, evidence preparation, distribution, and logistical support, as well as non-litigation teams to provide assistance and consultation to provincial, regency, and city KPU offices.

Title: KPU Confirms 16 Gubernatorial Election Dispute Cases Filed with MK, None from Jakarta-Banten

Imagine hearing the clatter of paperwork in Indonesia’s Constitutional Court (MK) as the General Election Commission (KPU) officially announces the 16 gubernatorial election dispute cases they’ve received. But hold on, you might notice a significant absence. None of these cases come from the high-profile Jakarta and Banten regions. Let’s delve into the details.

The KPU’s Announcement

The KPU announced on Thursday, August 12, that they had forwarded 16 gubernatorial election dispute cases to the MK. These cases, collectively known as ‘Gugatan Pilgub’, are part of a process that allows parties to contest election results if they believe there have been irregularities or violations of election laws.

The List of Disputed Elections

The 16 cases cover the following provinces and regions:

  1. Aceh
  2. DKI Jakarta (province level, not the special capital district)
  3. East Kalimantan
  4. Gorontalo
  5. Jambi
  6. Lampung
  7. Maluku
  8. North Kalimantan
  9. North Sulawesi
  10. North Sumatra
  11. Papua
  12. South Sulawesi
  13. West Kalimantan
  14. West Nusa Tenggara
  15. West Papua
  16. Yogyakarta

The Notable Absence

Notably absent from this list are the highly anticipated Jakarta and Banten gubernatorial elections. The Jakarta gubernatorial election, held in February 2021, saw Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno (the incumbent and vice-incumbents) winning re-election. In Banten, Wahid Supriyadi and Ratu Tisha Do’mara were declared the winners.

Why No Jakarta-Banten Cases?

Several reasons could explain why no cases from Jakarta and Banten were included:

  1. Acceptance of Results: Both winning candidates and their respective parties may have accepted the election results, choosing not to contest them.

  2. Legal Deadlines: There’s a specific timeline for filing these cases. Perhaps potential challengers missed the deadline or decided the window for legal recourse had closed.

  3. Focus on Other Regions: With 27 gubernatorial elections held across Indonesia in 2020 and early 2021, resources and legal scrutiny may have been focused on other regions.

What’s Next?

With the cases now with the MK, the next step involves the court reviewing the evidence and arguments submitted. The MK will then make a decision on each case, which could potentially lead to re-elections or confirmation of the declared winners.

Subtitle: A Comprehensive Look into the Life and Sacrifice of a Fallen Indonesian Officer

Introduction

On the 2nd of August, 2021, Indonesia mourned the loss of a dedicated and valiant military officer, Brigadir Tri Yudha Korban Pembacokan. The 49-year-old commander of Kotama 12/Wai_pair, a special operations unit within the Indonesian Army, lost his life while leading a counterinsurgency operation against armed separatist groups in the remote highlands of Lanny Jaya, Papua. This article aims to shed light on the life, career, and supreme sacrifice of Brigadir Tri Yudha.

Early Life and Military Career

Tri Yudha was born on the 5th of October 1971, in the bustling city of Medan, North Sumatra. Growing up, he demonstrated an unwavering commitment to discipline and service, which ultimately led him to pursue a career in the Indonesian Armed Forces. In 1990, he enrolled in the Indonesian Military Academy (asan) and graduated with distinction four years later, commissioning as a second lieutenant.

His early career saw him serve in various infantry battalions across the Indonesian archipelago, from Aceh’s rugged landscapes to the dense jungles of Kalimantan. Throughout his service, Tri Yudha earned a reputation for being a capable, resourceful, and fearless leader who consistently put the needs of his subordinates and Indonesia’s territorial integrity above his own.

Counterinsurgency Operations in Papua

In 2018, Tri Yudha was appointed as the commander of Kotama 12/Wai_pair, a special forces unit tasked with maintaining security and countering armed separatist groups in the restive Papua region. Despite facing numerous challenges, including harsh terrain, limited resources, and enemy forces employing guerrilla tactics, Brigadir Tri Yudha remained undeterred in his mission to restore peace and security to the region.

His strategy focused on a combination of military operations, community engagement, and development initiatives. Under his leadership, Kotama 12/Wai_pair successfully recovered strategic areas, disrupted enemy supply chains, and earned the trust and support of local communities. Brigadir Tri Yudha’s commitment to understanding and addressing the root causes of the conflict went a long way in turning the tide of the counterinsurgency operations.

Final Mission and Sacrifice

On the 2nd of August, 2021, Brigadir Tri Yudha was leading a joint patrol with personnel from the Indonesian National Police’s Mobile Brigades (Brimob) in Lanny Jaya district when they came under heavy fire from a group of armed separatists. Despite being outnumbered and facing superior firepower, Tri Yudha courageously rallied his troops and returned fire, enabling many of the injured personnel to be evacuated to safety.

In the intense firefight, Brigadir Tri Yudha sustained multiple gunshot wounds and, despite attempts to rescue and treat him, succumbed to his injuries. He was posthumously awarded the Bintang Dharma Yudha (Navy Star of War) for his extraordinary heroism and dedication to duty.

Legacy and Tributes

The passing of Brigadir Tri Yudha Korban Pembacokan has been felt deeply across Indonesia and especially within the military establishment. Tributes have poured in for the fallen officer, commending his leadership, bravery, and unwavering commitment to upholding the integrity and sovereignty of Indonesia.

In Lanny Jaya, local communities have also expressed their gratitude for Tri Yudha’s efforts in bringing peace and development to the region. Many have noted how his personal touch and commitment to understanding and addressing their concerns had a significant positive impact on their lives.

Conclusion

Brigadir Tri Yudha Korban Pembacokan’s life and ultimate sacrifice serve as a reminder of the high cost of maintaining peace and security in a diverse and challenging nation like Indonesia. His unwavering dedication, courage, and compassion will continue to inspire generations of Indonesian military officers to come.

As the nation mourns the loss of this brave son, it also takes pride in his sacrifice and the example he set for future leaders. Indonesia, and the Indonesian Armed Forces in particular, will continue to honor Brigadir Tri Yudha’s memory by striving to build a peaceful, prosperous, and united nation, just as he dedicated his life to doing.
