Title: TNI AL Member Arrested in Connection to fatal Shooting on Jakarta-Merak Toll Road

Article:

In a significant development, a member of the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) has been apprehended in relation to a gruesome shooting incident on the Jakarta-Merak Toll Road. The arrest was confirmed by the Deputy Commander of the Navy’s Naval Special Operations Command (Kopaska), Major General Yusri Nuryanto.

The shooting, which took place in the early hours of Thursday, February 1, at the rest area of the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road in Jayanti, Tangerang Regency, Banten, resulted in two fatalities. The victims, identified only by their initials IAR and RAB, were caught in the crossfire. The owner of a rental car service was among the deceased, having succumbed to a gunshot wound to the chest.

While details are still scarce, the arrested navy member is currently detained at the Navy’s Special Forces Base (Puspomal). However, General Yusri has not yet elaborated on the exact timeline of the arrest or the identity of the perpetrator. The motive behind the shooting also remains unclear.

In a separate statement, the Head of Cinangka Police Sector, AKP Asep Iwan Kurniawan, clarified that there were no recorded incidents of police refusing assistance to the rental car company. Seven individuals arrived at the police station in a minibus, seeking assistance for a towing operation due to a leased vehicle issue. However, they were unable to provide proper documentation, prompting the police to refer them to file a formal report.

This incident has thrown a spotlight on the need for stricter security measures on toll roads and the importance of thorough documentation for such services. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will follow.

Presidential Address: Prabowo Speaks Out Against Elitist Deterrents

In his recent address at the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2025-2029 workshop, President Prabowo Subianto took a moment to address certain portions of society that have been critical of his new administration, which has been in office for approximately two months.

Prabowo pointedly spoke about individuals who, despite their high-level educations and prestigious degrees, still maintain a self-deprecating mindset and often denigrate the government’s efforts. "They have PhDs from renowned institutions, yet their self-esteem remains low. They begin to criticize before we’ve even started working," Prabowo stated.

The President also noted that this mindset is not uncommon within Indonesia, with some individuals still struggling with self-doubt. He emphasized that there are those who consider themselves intelligent and, therefore, question the capabilities of their countrymen.

President Prabowo vowed that his administration will continue to strive for a clean and efficient government. He tasked his cabinet, both at the central and regional levels, with reducing budget leaks that ultimately harm Indonesian society. "Civil servants can greatly determine these leaks, and smuggled goods from abroad pose a threat to our nation’s sovereignty," he said.

Prabowo’s directives were delivered at the National Planning Ministry’s headquarters, with participation from Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, all cabinet ministers, the military and police chiefs, and parliamentary representatives from the MPR, DPR, and DPD. Several governors, regents, and mayors were also in attendance, either in person or via video conference.

As the administration looks ahead to the implementation of the RPJMN 2025-2029, President Prabowo’s call for unity and self-belief serves as a poignant reminder of the collective work required to propel Indonesia forward.

In the pamphlet, the family appeals to anyone who might have seen Iptu Tomi being carried away by the river current, from the Cempedeak River towards the Rawara/Muara Rawara River confluence. They express their gratitude for any information, no matter how small.

Authorities are continuing the search for the missing officer, with Monterry hoping for additional support from the National Police Chief, Jenderal Listyo Sigit Prabowo. "We ask the National Police Chief for his attention in this matter and to dispatch additional teams to aid the search," Monterry told detikcom on Sunday, December 22.

He emphasized his family’s hope that Iptu Tomi will be found safe and sound, requesting prayers from all sides for his brother’s well-being.

"We, the family of Iptu Tomi, hope that the search will be carried out comprehensively. We ask for more attention from the Papua Barat Police," Monterry added.
