In a significant development, a member of the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) has been apprehended in relation to a gruesome shooting incident on the Jakarta-Merak Toll Road. The arrest was confirmed by the Deputy Commander of the Navy’s Naval Special Operations Command (Kopaska), Major General Yusri Nuryanto.
The shooting, which took place in the early hours of Thursday, February 1, at the rest area of the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road in Jayanti, Tangerang Regency, Banten, resulted in two fatalities. The victims, identified only by their initials IAR and RAB, were caught in the crossfire. The owner of a rental car service was among the deceased, having succumbed to a gunshot wound to the chest.
While details are still scarce, the arrested navy member is currently detained at the Navy’s Special Forces Base (Puspomal). However, General Yusri has not yet elaborated on the exact timeline of the arrest or the identity of the perpetrator. The motive behind the shooting also remains unclear.
In a separate statement, the Head of Cinangka Police Sector, AKP Asep Iwan Kurniawan, clarified that there were no recorded incidents of police refusing assistance to the rental car company. Seven individuals arrived at the police station in a minibus, seeking assistance for a towing operation due to a leased vehicle issue. However, they were unable to provide proper documentation, prompting the police to refer them to file a formal report.
This incident has thrown a spotlight on the need for stricter security measures on toll roads and the importance of thorough documentation for such services. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will follow.
