Breaking: Indonesian Navy Admits Involvement of Three Sailors in Rohingya Refugee Boat Shooting
The Indonesian Navy has confirmed that three of its personnel were involved in a violent incident that left a migrant boat captain dead at a rest area on the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road. The sailors, all from elite units, have been detained for investigation.
The admission came from the Commander of the Indonesian Navy (Koarmada RI), Rear Admiral Denih Hendrata, during a press conference at the Koarmada headquarters in Jakarta. Two of the sailors are from the Navy’s elite amphibious troops, known as Kopaska Armada I, while the third is from a TNI AL tanker ship, KRI Bontang.
The sailors identified are Sergeant AA and Sergeant RH from Kopaska, and Petty Officer BA from the KRI Bontang. They are currently being investigated by the Naval Military Police at their headquarters.
The incident, which occurred at the rest area around kilometer 45 of the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road, involved the pogram of migrant boat captain and a shooting that resulted in his death. The Navy’s confirmation sheds light on the ongoing issue of migrant boat intercepts and their treatment by Indonesian authorities.
