Most Ukrainians with Diamond Princess refused to evacuate to their homeland

Almost all citizens of Ukraine from the cruise ship Diamond Princess, which was quarantined due to the coronavirus, refused to be evacuated to their homeland, the radio said Gromadske Head of the Crisis Management Department of the Consular Services Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Maxim Kovalenko. According to him, there were 25 Ukrainians on board, two are now in the hospital. All of them are crew members.

“Their obligations are determined by the contract, their desires are also taken into account. So far, 24 of them have reported that they do not intend to return to Ukraine now. Contact is being made with another Ukrainian, ”said Mr. Kovalenko.

The Ukrainian embassy, ​​the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health, however, are prepared for the opinion of citizens to change and that necessary measures will have to be taken.

Recall, Diamond Princess left the Japanese city of Yokohama on January 20 and returned on February 3 after one of the passengers who left the ship in Hong Kong on January 25 was infected with a coronavirus. The ship was quarantined. Two weeks later, on February 19, passengers began to go ashore in groups. In total, there were 3,711 people on board the ship, including several Russians. According to media reports, four people have already died from the passengers of the vessel.
