Dining Out Tax-Free: Here’s How to Enjoy 12% PPN Relief at Restaurants

Title: Dining Out in Jakarta: What You Need to Know About Restaurant Taxes

In the vibrant city of Jakarta, dining out has become a staple for locals and visitors alike. But as you indulge in the culinary delights the city has to offer, understanding the tax landscape can help you make informed decisions. Here’s a simple guide to restaurant taxes in Jakarta.

PPN Increase Near Istana"</strong></p>”>Pajak Pertambahan Nilai (PPN) 101

pensait that meals at restaurants are subject to PPN, a value-added tax, with a rate of 12%. However, the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) under the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) has clarified this misconception.

In a recent statement on their official Instagram account, @ditjenpajakri, DJP explained that food consumption at restaurants is not subject to PPN. Instead, restaurant taxes are managed at the local level by regional governments.

Yet, how are these taxes applied?

Understanding Restaurant Taxes in Jakarta

Food and beverages served in hotels, restaurants,-warungs, catering services, and similar establishments are subject to regional taxes, as per Undang-Undang Nomor 7 Year 2021 regarding the Harmonization of Taxation Regulations (HPP).

This tax, often referred to as the Pajak Barang dan Jasa Tertentu (PBJT), is not administered by the central government but rather by local authorities. The tax applies to food and drinks consumed on-site or taken away, including those supplied by catering services.

The Rate of Restaurant Tax

The rate for this specific PBJT is capped at 10%, according to Undang-Undang Nomor 1 Year 2022 on the Financial Relations between the Central and Regional Governments (HKPD).

The tax base, or the amount on which the tax is calculated, is the price consumers pay for these goods and services. If there’s no payment, the tax base is determined by the average price of similar goods and services in the region.

Two Years Neglected, Apartment Transforms into Chicken Farm!

by Chief Editor January 3, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Title: Chinese Tenant‘s Shocking Peternakan Ayam in Affordable Apartment

In an unexpected turn of events, a property owner in China recently discovered that their affordable flat had been transformed into an unintended poultry farm. The upset landlord only found out about the unusual use of their property after two years of daños activity, upon arriving at their flat earlier this month.

According to the South China Morning Post, the anonymous owner was met with an overwhelming stench upon arriving at their flat. Upon entering, they found chickens roaming freely and decor that was severely damaged, requiring extensive renovations. The flat, intended for human habitation, was now home to dozens of chickens, with their coops strewn across the living space.

"I can’t believe the state of it. The smell is terrible, the floors and walls are badly damaged. It needs a complete renovation to make it habitable again," the owner said in their viral post, expressing their outrage at the situation.

Upon arriving at the property, the owner found the tenant in their bedroom. The owner revealed that the repair costs would exceed the two years’ worth of rent, and they sought advice from netizens on how to deal with such a situation.

Legal expert Zhang Ying from Jilin Subang Law Firm responded to the incident, explaining to Jilin TV, "The Chinese Civil Code allows landlords to terminate the lease if tenants use the property for purposes other than residence. Even if the contract doesn’t specify the usage, landlords can still seek compensation for damage caused by the tenant’s improper use."

This is not an isolated incident in China. In 2021, a woman in Shanghai sued a tenant for secretly subletting her apartment after modifying it. The property owner had specified in the contract that the apartment should not be altered or sublet, but the tenant disregarded these terms.

As more urban dwellers in China turn to affordable housing options, unexpected uses of properties, such as this poultry farm incident, may become increasingly common. Landlords and tenants alike must ensure clear communication and adherence to contract terms to prevent such disputes in the future.

"New Jakarta Metro Begins Operations: Disappointment for Proposed Candidates Niluh Djelantik and Robi Navicula."

Title: Bali‘s Trans Metro Dewata Buses Cease Operations, Leaving Residents Disappointed

The island of Bali bids farewell to its public bus service, Trans Metro Dewata (TMD), as of January 1, 2025. The decision, announced via Instagram by @transmetrodewata on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, has left residents, including prominent figures like Robi Navicula and Niluh Djelantik, disheartened.

Why the Shutdown?

The cessation of TMD’s operations is attributed to the lack of subsidy from the State Budget (APBN) for 2025. Since its inception in 2020, TMD has been sustained by APBN subsidies. While the Bali Provincial Government (Pemprov) has assured that operational funds are included in the 2025 Provincial Budget (APBD), it’s only enough to cover one corridor. Currently, TMD serves six corridors in Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Tabanan, under the Sarbagita scheme.

Public Outcry

Gede Robi, vocalist of the band Navicula, expressed his disappointment, stating, "A smart city should have accessible public transportation, subsidized by the government. If not, it’s more like a ‘stupid city’!" Niluh Djelantib, Bali’s DPD (Regional Representative Council) member, also vented her frustration on Instagram, @niluhdjelantik, urging authorities not to ignore public concerns.

Surya, a 54-year-old resident of Kelurahan Sading, Mengwi, Badung, echoed these sentiments. He relied heavily on TMD for his daily commute due to its affordability. Now, he’s left struggling with the high costs of alternative transportation.

Caught by Surprise

Many commuters were caught off guard by the sudden halt in operations. At Denpasar’s Terminal Ubung, dozens of TMD buses lined up, waiting for passengers who were unaware of the shutdown. Adi Santika Jaya, a 30-year-old father, had planned a family trip to Monkey Forest using TMD but had to change his plans. He lamented the lack of affordable public transport alternatives.

Looking Ahead

Residents like Surya eagerly await the government’s response, hoping for a swift replacement or reopening of the TMD service. Bali’s transportation landscape will undoubtedly face significant changes in the wake of this development.

Black Smoke Pillar scare: Mount Raung’s explosive eruption causes viral concern, says BPBD

Breaking: Mount Raung Erupts, Spewing Thick Black Smoke

A viral video on social media and messaging apps shows Mount Raung belching out thick, dark ash clouds. The local disaster mitigation agency (BPBD) confirms that the volcano, situated at the border of Banyuwangi, Bondowoso, and Jember, has indeed erupted.

The eruption occurred today, December 24, 2024, at 09:30 WIB, according to the Volcanological and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG). It resulted in a column of ash reaching approximately 2,000 meters above the peak, with a dark, solid intensity moving eastward.

Seismographic data recorded the eruption with a maximum amplitude of 32 mm and a duration of 282 seconds.

The video, which is about 37 seconds long, clearly shows thick white smoke accompanied by swirling black mist rising from the mountain peak. It was uploaded by a user named "Tretan Sukosari" on Facebook yesterday, with the description "this morning, approaching noon."

In the video, a voice states, "There’s black mist, specifically on December 24, 2024, a Tuesday… That’s all for today’s report. Stay vigilant, people of Bondowoso and surrounding areas."

Probo Nugroho, the village head of Sumberwringin, confirms the eruption, stating, "Yes, it’s true. We ask residents to stay calm and await further information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and Bondowoso BPBD."

Sigit Purnomo, the operations head of the Bondowoso BPBD, explains that the black mist seen in the video is due to the Mount Raung eruption. He adds that information from the BMKG’s friends’ status mentions it’s a mild eruption.

Purnomo plans to coordinate with the BMKG and initially prepare to distribute masks while monitoring the direction of the black mist. He says, "We’ll distribute masks, that’s the initial step. We’ll see which direction the black mist is heading."

Turkish President’s Exit During Prabowo’s D-8 Address Causes Viral Stir

Headline: Turkish President Exits as Indonesian Leader Speaks at D-8 Summit

Subhead: Controversy erupts as President Erdogan leaves meeting while President Prabowo addresses D-8 leaders in Cairo.

Article:

Presidents and world leaders are no strangers to the global limelight, but they rarely find themselves at the center of a viral social media event like the one that unfolded during the Developing Eight (D-8) summit in Cairo recently. Indonesian President Joko Widodo, commonly known as Jokowi, was delivering his speech when an unexpected scene caught the internet’s attention – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan opting to exit the room.

In a video circulated widely on social media, Erdogan can be seen leaving his seat and walking out of the room when Jokowi was addressing fellow D-8 leaders. The incident grabbed headlines and has sparked a wave of opinions and speculations. While some indignant viewers accused Erdogan of disrespect, others offered possible explanations, pointing out that such occurrences are not uncommon in international forums.

The Indonesian government has since issued a statement through its Foreign Ministry spokesperson, cleaving to diplomatic norms. "According to international meeting protocols," Roy Sumirat, the spokesperson, clarified, "each delegation head has the right to decide when to sit or leave the room." He added that leaders often engage in parallel meetings and bilateral discussions during international summits, which could explain Erdogan’s abrupt exit.

In the midst of the swirling controversy, the focus on Jokowi’s speech largely faded. The Indonesian president had used his platform at the D-8 summit to emphasize the importance of upholding international law and to call for collective action in addressing global issues. He notably urged D-8 countries to collaborate more closely in the ‘blue economy’ sector, estimating its global potential at a staggering $600 billion.

As the D-8 summit concluded, so too did the brief moment of international discourse sparked by Erdogan’s departure. Whether this incident will have any lasting impact remains to be seen, but it has certainly provided a fascinating snippet of diplomacy in the digital age.
