Drunken Spate of Street Collisions: A Closer Look into Alcohol-Fueled Driving in Kenjeran Area

Drunk Driver Admits Alcohol Use After Causing Multiple Crashes in Surabaya

A 38-year-old driver, identified as Mercy, confessed to being under the influence of alcohol after his vehicle crashed into several cars and motorcycles along Jalan Kenjeran and a pedal tricycle in the Pakuwon City area of Surabaya. In a police interrogation, Mercy admitted to consuming two bottles of beer before driving.

"I was drunk, sir. I drank two bottles of beer," Mercy confessed, later adding, "I’m sorry, sir. I want to take responsibility."

Surabaya Metropolitan Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief, AKBP Arif Fazlurrahman, confirmed that Mercy’s blood alcohol content was 0.77, which is significantly higher than the average level of 0.05-0.06 in random tests.

"This level can cause a person to lose motor control and awareness of their actions," Arif explained. "In such a condition, they may exhibit aggressive behavior, lose coordination, and have difficulty processing sensory information."

Three people were injured in the incident, including a 16-year-old girl who was hospitalized. The incident highlights the importance of responsible drinking and awareness of the dangers of drink-driving.
