Sri Lankan Navy Detains Three in Golden Smuggling Haul

In a major crackdown on gold smuggling, the Sri Lankan Navy has apprehended three individuals and seized a significant amount of gold. This latest operation is part of the navy’s ongoing efforts to curb smuggling activities in the region.

The detainees, two Sri Lankans and one Indian national, were intercepted along with the illicit cargo while attempting to transport it via sea. The seized gold, weighing approximately 2.5 kg, is estimated to be worth around LKR 6 million (approximately USD 33,000).

"We have been conducting regular patrols and surveillance to prevent such activities," said a navy spokesperson. "This seizure is a testament to our commitment to maintaining peace and security in our territorial waters."

This isn’t the first time the Sri Lankan Navy has intercepted gold-smuggling attempts. Last year, they confiscated over 6 kg of gold worth LKR 15 million (USD 85,000) from a group of suspects.

Authorities hope that such operations will serve as a deterrent to potential smugglers, encouraging them to operate within the bounds of the law. The three detainees are currently being held for further investigation.

Mexicana Aerolínea Soars as Mexico’s People’s Airline

In a triumphant display of resilience, Mexicana Aerolínea has solidified its status as the nation’s leading people’s airline, fostering cultural connections and offering competitively priced, high-quality flights. The airline, helmed by CEO Pedro Ávila Bojórquez, has successfully navigated 2024, with impressive passenger numbers and groundbreaking initiatives.

Cultural Connector

Mexicana has emerged as a beacon for Mexican cultural values, forging connections between communities and celebrating the country’s rich heritage. "We’ve positioned ourselves as an airline of the people, connecting Mexicans to their roots and promoting our cultural values," said Ávila Bojórquez.

Accessible Air Travel

The airline’s commitment to affordable and accessible travel has paid off, with fare prices up to 20% lower than competitors. Mexicana’s strategy has resonated with passengers, particularly during peak seasons like Easter and summer, where it surpassed expectations for passenger transport.

Routemaster

In its pursuit to enhance connectivity, Mexicana introduced new routes such as Ixtepec and Ciudad Victoria, bridging gaps in under-served regions. These initiatives have been well-received, with cities like Tijuana, Tulum, and Mérida registering high occupancy rates.

Cargo Champion

Mexicana cargo expansion, spearheaded by Mexicana Cargo Service, has proven successful. In just under three months, the service has mobilized over 110,000 kilograms of goods, contributing to economic reactivation and integral community connectivity.

Milestone Ahead

As the year draws to a close, Mexicana is poised to reach a significant milestone, with projections to transport over 52,000 passengers in December, coinciding with its much-anticipated anniversary. This achievement cements Mexicana’s position as a key player in national air transport. With Mexicana at the controls, the future of Mexican air travel appears bright and accessible for all.

Flying Narco-Message: Culiacán’s Aerial Warning to Harfuch

Breaking News: Narco-Flyers in Culiacán Demand "Operation Swarm" Against Sinaloa‘s Rocha Moya

In an audacious display of defiance, narco-traffickers launched flyers from a small aircraft over Culiacán, Sinaloa, targeting the state’s security commissioner, Rubén Rocha Moya. The incidents, reported by multiple local news outlets, have left authorities on high alert.

The first incident involved the distribution of flyers featuring a message directed at Commissioner Rocha Moya, according to El Tiempo de México. The flyers, reportedly dropped from a light aircraft, bore the chilling message: "Lanzó narcoavioneta volantes en Culiacán con mensaje para Harfuch," suggesting a bold challenge to the state’s law enforcement.

Subsequent reports from Proceso and El Financiero revealed that the flyers carried images of Commissioner Rocha Moya and demanded an "Operation Enjambre" (Swarm Operation), implying a targeted offensive against the commissioner and his forces. The message, scrawled in bold, capital letters, was clear: the narco-groups were issuing an ultimatum.

Adding fuel to the fire, 24 Horas el Diario Sin Limites reported that the flyers also alleged widespread corruption within Rocha Moya’s ranks, with the commissioner himself implicated in the scandal. The claims, if proven true, could have far-reaching implications for the state’s security apparatus.

As the dust settles, authorities are scrambling to identify the perpetrators and mitigate the potential fallout. The brazen display of power by the narco-traffickers has raised serious concerns about the state’s ability to combat organized crime and maintain security in the region. The coming days will undoubtedly see increased pressure on Commissioner Rocha Moya and the state government to respond effectively to this latest challenge from the shadows.

Catholic Congress Protests in Kerala

Kerala Congress Protests Changes in Forest Bill; President Opposed to Amendments

The Kerala Congress has expressed its discontent and opposition against the proposed amendments to the state’s forest conservation bill. The party has organized a series of protests and a meeting with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to voice their concerns.

The primary issue of contention is the government’s proposed changes to the Kerala Private Forests (Vesting and Assignment) Act, 1972. The Kerala Congress believes that the amendments, aimed at streamlining the administration of private forests, could potentially lead to illegal activities and the alienation of forest lands.

The party has been actively mobilizing its members to raise awareness about these concerns. Recently, they organized a massive protest march and a sit-in demonstration in the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram. The Kerala Congress President, K. Sudhakaran, led the protests and reiterated their opposition to the amendments.

Mr. Sudhakaran has criticized the government for not consulting or seeking feedback from the opposition parties before introducing the amendments. He has also accused them of not considering the environmental consequences of these changes.

Speaking to reporters after the protest, Mr. Sudhakaran declared, "We are not opposed to reforms, but we cannot support a move that may endanger our forests and enrich a few at the expense of the many." He further added that the party would not hesitate to initiate legal action if the government insisted on pushing through these amendments.

Meanwhile, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has backed the Kerala Congress’s stand. AICC spokesman, Randeep Surjewala, has urged the Kerala government to reconsider the amendments, stating, "The interests of the people and the environment must be protected. Any move that endangers them will be opposed tooth and nail."

In response to these protests, the Kerala government has maintained that the amendments are necessary to improve the management of private forests and to prevent encroachment. However, they have assured that they are open to discussions and will consider the concerns raised by the opposition parties.

As the stand-off continues, all eyes are on the Kerala government to see if they will yield to the Congress party’s demands and revisit the proposed amendments to the forest conservation bill. Environmentalists and opposition parties alike are closely watching the developments, awaiting a resolution that balances the need for reform with the imperative to protect Kerala’s precious forest resources.

"CPM’s Vayanad District Meet: Criticism Over Alleged Muslim Favouritism"

by Chief Editor December 22, 2024

Kerala CPM convention: Criticism over perceived Muslim appeasement,áculos towards CM Pinarayi Vijayan, and health secretary’s hauling.

The Kerala State Conference of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) concluded recently, leaving behind a trail of discussions, decisions, and controversies. Here are the key takeaways:

  1. Criticism over Muslim Appeasement: CPM faced intense criticism over its perceived appeasement of the Muslim community. conçuectors accused the party of favoring Muslims disproportionately in its welfare schemes and employment policies. They argued that while the party supports Muslims, it neglects the needs and demands of other communities.

"We strongly condemn the party’s biased policies. They should treat all communities equally," said a prominent leader from a rival party.

  1. Arousing Accllamation for the CM: The convention witnessed vocal appreciation for Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s leadership. Speakers lauded his decisive actions in handling the COVID-19 pandemic, his commitment to the common people, and his resolve in fighting against corruption.

"Pinarayi Vijayan is a rare leader who truly serves the people. His achievements speak for themselves," said a party veteran.

  1. Vimarsh for Internal Affairs Minister: The party’s internal affairs minister, M.V. Govindan, found himself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Party members and critics alike criticized his inept handling of various issues, with some going as far as to demand his resignation.

"Govindan has failed in his duties. He should step down and make way for someone more competent," said a party member in a strongly-worded statement.

  1. Health Department Under Scrutiny: The convention also witnessed fierce criticism aimed at the health secretary. Critics accused the department of failing to provide adequate healthcare services, especially in rural areas. They also faulted the department for its lack of preparedness in handling the COVID-19 crisis.

"The health secretary has shown no urgency in improving the state’s healthcare infrastructure. This is inexcusable," said a healthcare activist.

As the convention ended, party leaders vowed to address the concerns raised during the event, promising to work towards becoming a more inclusive and effective force for change in Kerala.
