Trump: Putin Seeks Meeting, Summit in Negotiations

Exclusive: President-Elect Trump Confirms Plans to Meet Putin as Ukraine War Enters Year Two

In an unexpected twist, President-elect Donald Trump has revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed a desire to meet with him, with preparations for such a meeting currently underway. The announcement comes just over a week before Trump’s inauguration, and amid ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which has been invaded by Russia since February 2022.

Trump made the announcement during a gathering with Republican governors at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, on Thursday, January 9, 2025. He stated, "He [Putin] wants to meet, and we’re setting that up," hinting at a possible diplomatic breakthrough in the long-standing conflict.

During a subsequent press conference, Trump elaborated on his earlier statement, expressing his eagerness to conclude the war in Ukraine. "President Putin wants to meet, he’s said it publicly, and we’ve got to stop this chaos," Trump stated, according to AFP.

While Trump has not presented any concrete proposals for a ceasefire or peace agreement, he has consistently criticized the substantial military aid packages sent by the United States to Ukraine under President Joe Biden’s administration. Trump has also questioned the U.S.’s continued involvement in NATO and frequently derided Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as being "corrupt."

American involvement in Ukraine has seen the U.S. provide over US$65 billion in military aid since the start of the invasion, making it the largest supporter of the Ukrainian war effort. As Trump prepares to assume the presidency, the international community awaits details on his planned meeting with Putin and its potential impact on the conflict in Ukraine.

President of Iran Urges Israel to Withdraw from Syria

Iran‘s President Urges Israel to Withdraw from Syria, Warns of Terror Cell Reactivation

In a policy statement, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called on Israel to withdraw from Syrian territory following the downfall of Bashar al-Assad, a longstanding ally of Tehran. He also sounded the alarm on the potential reactivation of terror cells in the war-torn country.

Iranian News Agency (IRNA) reported on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, that Pezeshkian made these remarks during a joint press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in Tehran. The two leaders had convened to discuss trade, cooperation, and recent developments in Syria.

"Israel’s occupation of Syrian territories and violations of religious sentiments, particularly those of Shia sanctities, were among the key issues discussed," Pezeshkian stated, emphasizing the urgent need for Israel’s withdrawal.

Concurrently, President Pezeshkian issued a stern warning about the resurgence of terror cells in Syria. Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, echoed this caution, expressing concerns over the role of foreign powers in the Syrian conflict.

Former Syrian President Assad’s exile followed an abrupt seizure of Damascus by rebel forces led by the Sunni Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). Since then, Israel has launched hundreds of airstrikes against Syrian military facilities, citing the need to prevent strategic weapons from falling into enemy hands.

Furthermore, Israeli forces have occupied strategic positions in the Golan Heights, a zone demilitarized by the United Nations and seized by Israel from Syria in the 1967 Arab-Israeli War. Israel has since maintained this territory.

Meta Description: Three members of the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the shooting incident that killed a rental car boss and injured another on the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road in Banten.

Jakarta, cnnindonesia.com — Three members of the Indonesian Navy (AL) have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a rental car boss on the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road Rest Area KM 45 in Jayanti, Tangerang, Banten last Thursday. The navy personnel identified as Sertu AA, Sertu RH, and KLK BA were caught and are currently being held by authorities.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of January 2, left the rental car boss, identified by his initials IAR, dead at the scene. Another individual, identified as RAB, was injured in the shooting and is currently receiving treatment.

The Commander of the Naval Military Police (Puspom TNI AL), Laksma Samista, confirmed that the three suspects have been apprehended and are now considered suspects in the case. He also stated that the weapons used in the shooting were not homemade but rather issued by the navy as part of their official duties.

In a separate statement, the Commander of the Naval Operations Command (Pangkoarmada II), Laksdya Denih Hendrata, revealed that the three suspects were serving as Aide de Camp (ADC) or personal aides, which is why they had weapons with them at the time. Denih also noted that the suspects had been subjected to physical assault (keroyokan) by around 15 unknown individuals at the scene prior to the shooting incident.

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) are currently leading the investigation into the case. In a press conference, the head of Polda Banten, Irjen Suyudi Ario Seto, explained that the incident was preceded by an alleged vehicle theft from a rental shop in Rajeg, Tangerang, involving a Honda Brio car bearing the license plate B-2669-KZO. The car was later resold several times, ending up in the possession of the three navy suspects.

During the investigation, Polda Banten discovered instances of unprofessional conduct by a member of the Cinangka Police, Brigadir Dery Andriani, who failed to respond to a report of the car theft and did not accompany the victim to secure and impound the vehicle. Polda Banten has since initiated disciplinary proceedings against Andriani and the Cinangka Police Chief, AKP Asep Iwan Kurniawan, for their lack of supervision.

The case is currently under investigation, with authorities working to determine the motivations and circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.

TNI AL Officer Accused: Rental Car Theft or Misunderstanding? Puspomal Speaks Out

Headline: TNI: One Navy Officer Allegedly Involved in Shooting That Killed Boss of Car Rental

The Chief of Navy Strategic Command, Laksda Sasmita, reveals the roles of three military personnel allegedly involved in a shooting incident at a toll road rest area in Tangerang, which resulted in the death of the car rental boss (48). The incident was captured on CCTV and sparked public outrage.

In a press conference held at the Headquarters of the Joint Regional Command, Jl. Gunung Sahari, Jakarta, on Monday (6/1/2025), Sasmita confirmed that only one navy officer was involved in the shooting, firing twice. The incident occurred outside a mini-market, as seen in the CCTV footage.

"One navy officer was involved in the shooting, which happened outside, not inside. There was chaos at the scene, and one person was attacked after leaving the toilet, leading to the shooting," Sasmita explained.

The three military personnel involved are identified as Sertu AA, Sertu RH, and Kelasi Kepala BA. Two of them are from Kopaska Armada I, while one is from KRI Bontang. Sasmita mentioned that they are colleagues and that their roles in the incident are not clearly defined yet.

Interestingly, the shooter and the victim are related. The shooter, Sertu AA, is the victim’s uncle. "The shooter was the victim’s uncle. He’s the one seen approaching the victim in the CCTV footage," Sasmita added.

At present, there’s no evidence suggesting the involvement of the three military personnel in the car theft. However, further investigations will be conducted if any new evidence surfaces.

The firearm used in the shooting belongs to the navy, used by Sertu AA as an aider-de-camp (ADC). "The gun is an inventory that comes with the job due to AA’s role as an ADC," explained the Commander of the Joint Regional Command, Laksdya TNI Denih Hendrata.

The shooting incident was triggered by the car rental boss trying to retrieve a Toyota Brio that was supposed to be returned but was moved to Tangerang without authorization. The car had been sold to RH and then to AA, a navy personnel, for 40 million IDR after being initially sold by the rental boss’s client to RH for 23 million IDR.

The incident unfolded on Thursday (2/1) when the rental boss and his friends found the car at a toll road rest area and attempted to take it back, leading to a scuffle that ended in the fatal shooting.

The Recidivism Challenge: Rethinking Rehabilitation Along Jakarta’s Toll Roads

Arrest Made in Brutal Highway Carjacking: Man Caught for Stabbings on Congested Toll Road

Article:

In a dramatic turn of events, Jakarta police have apprehended a man named M Ali Sanda (MAS), allegedly involved in a brazen carjacking incident that targeted a couple on the accessibility toll road of Tanjung Priok, Jakarta Utara. MAS is believed to have played a pivotal role in threatening the victims with a sharp weapon.

"Our team has successfully apprehended one suspect, identified as MAS, who threatened the victims with a sharp object," said Kanit Jatanras of the Metro Jakarta Utara Police, AKP Lukman, in an interview on Saturday, January 4, 2025.

The heinous crime unfolded on Friday, January 3, in the evening, when traffic was heavily congested at the scene. MAS, along with five other accomplices, carried out the daring robbery.

MAS, authorities revealed, has a history of criminal behavior, being a repeat offender particularly in cases of stealing with violence, or ‘curas’.

"In our initial investigation, we found out that MAS is a recidivist, previously arrested by Kelapa Gading Police for a similar crime," AKP Lukman disclosed.

Currently, police are hot on the heels of the remaining five suspects who collaborated with MAS in this operation. Their modus operandi includes frequently targeting vehicles near the Plumpang Toll Road.

Operating When Traffic is Stalled

The mastermind behind the operation indicated that the group often targeted vehicles on Jakarta’s toll roads, specifically when traffic was heavy. Before carrying out their crimes, the gang would gather at a designated point near the location.

"They gather around before the incident, waiting for a suitable moment when traffic is heavily congested. Upon identifying an opportunity, they approach vehicles with open windows," AKP Lukman revealed to journalists.

The gang used sharp weapons, called ‘celurit’, to intimidate drivers and passengers into surrendering their valuables.

"Once they have identified an ideal target, they swiftly approach, armed with their weapons, and demand the handover of the victims’ belongings," he added.

So far, two vehicles have been reported as victims of the robberies. On Friday, a couple was targeted by the armed gang in the midst of the heavy congestion.

"The group encircled the couple’s car and attempted to assault the wife through the passenger side," reported Kombes Ade Ary Syam Indradi, Chief of the Metropolitan Jaya Police Public Relations Bureau.

In a separate incident, a lone driver was also targeted by the gang as he was exiting the toll road. The thief demanded money from the driver, snatched his bag, and además inflicted injuries to his back before fleeing the scene.

This capture brings some relief for Jakarta’s road users, but police caution that the hunt for the remaining suspects is ongoing. They urge everyone to stay alert and remain safe while navigating the city’s toll roads.

Headline: Brutal Daylight Robbery on Jakut Toll Road: Police Hunt Down Six Perpetrators

Subheading: A well-coordinated gang of robbers targets couples stuck in traffic on the busy Jakarta road, leaving two vehicles looted and one man injured.

Article:

In a shocking daylight heist, a group of six robbers targeted couples stuck in traffic on the Jakarta Toll Road, specifically targeting the North Jakarta area, also known as Jakut. The police have since arrested one suspect, M Ali Sanda, and are hunting down his five accomplices.

The scheme, unearthed by Jakarta Metro Police, was meticulously planned with the robbers congregating around Tollway Access Point (TAP) Plumpang before making their move. Speaking to reporters, the Head of Jakarta Metro Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Fauzan Yonnandi, illustrates the gang’s strategy: "They would gather around the target area and wait for traffic to build up. Once they spotted a vehicle with open windows, they’d pounce."

Equipped with deadly celurit knives, the robbers threatened their victims and made off with stolen goods from at least two vehicles. On Friday evening (3/1), a couple was ambushed while stuck in traffic. The robbers initially targeted the man but quickly turned their attention to his wife when she tried to shield him.

In the second incident, another unsuspecting driver was targeted moments before exiting the toll road. He was relieved of a sum of money after being threatened at knifepoint.

The arrested suspect, M Ali Sanda, is reportedly the mastermind behind the operation, wielding the knife during the attacks. Police are now on the hunt for his five associates: Aji, Anggi, Tedi, Amat (also known as Acong), and Cipuy.

Kompolres Metro Jakarta Utara’s chief, AKBP Ahmad Fuady, confirmed the arrest and expressed resolve in capturing the remaining suspects: "We’ve apprehended the main culprit, Ali Sanda, who carried the knife. We’re still in pursuit of the other five suspects."

The incidents have been reported to North Jakarta Metro Police. Further investigations are ongoing.

Indonesia’s Armed Forces Plan Billion-Dollar Weapons Delivery to Israel

U.S. Proposes $8 Billion Arms Sale to Israel Amidst Gaza Conflict

The Biden administration has notified U.S. Congress of a proposed arms sale to Israel valued at $8 billion, announced Reuters on Saturday, January 4, 2025. The sale comes amidst Israel’s ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza, which has claimed thousands of lives.

The proposed sale, which requires further approval from the House of Representatives and Senate committees, includes ammunition for fighter jets and armored combat vehicles, artillery shells, and a range of smaller-diameter bombs and warheads.

While the U.S. State Department has not yet commented on the report, a unnamed U.S. official told Axios that the package also comprises ammunition for helicopters and a number of different types of bombs.

This development occurs as protesters in the U.S. have been rallying for months, demanding an arms embargo against Israel. However, most of Washington’s policies towards its ally remain unchanged. Last August, the U.S. approved a $20 billion arms deal with Israel, including fighter jets and other military equipment.

The Biden administration has stated that it is assisting its close ally in defending against militant groups backed by Iran, such as Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and the Houthis in Yemen.

The proposed sale has reignited debates around U.S. arms exports and its support for Israel amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

Couple Ambushed by Armed Robbers on Jakarta Toll Road

A distressing incident occurred on Jakartan roads when a husband and wife duo (pasutri) were held up by a gang wielding sharp weapons while stuck in a traffic jam on the Tanjung Priok Access Toll Road in Jakarta Utara. One of the perpetrators, M Ali Sanda, has since been apprehended by police.

The event took place on Friday, March 1st, at around 6:40 PM local time (WIB). The victims, initially traveling in a pick-up truck with their initials IBA (52) and AR, were stopped in their tracks by the unexpected ambush.

Trapped in Traffic, Ambushed

As they waited in the queue to enter the toll gate, six armed assailants approached the couple, brandishing celurit knives. "Suddenly, while they were in their car, they were approached by around six unknown individuals carrying weapons," recounted Jakarta Utara Metro Police Chief Commissioner Ahmad Fuady in his statement on Saturday, March 2, 2025.

Stolen Phone, Assaulted Wife

One of the robbers, later identified as Ali Sanda, lunged at the vehicle, brandishing his knife and snatching the victim’s phone. Another assailant attempted to attack the woman, who was seated in the passenger seat. "He directly approached the victim’s car and brandished a knife, attempting to grab the phone and the victim’s bag, which was on the left side of the front passenger seat," he explained. "Another attacker tried to assault the victim’s wife from the left side of the car."

With their crime completed, the assailants fled the scene, leaving the couple startled and distressed. The husband suffered a minor injury to his finger in the attempt to fend off the attackers.

Police Swift Action, Main Suspect in Custody

In response to the incident, authorities swiftly moved to apprehend the culprits. M Ali Sanda was identified as the main suspect and is now in police custody at the Jakarta Utara Metro Police Station. He has been officially named a suspect in the case.

"Ali Sanda has been named as the main suspect," Commissioner Ahmad Fuady confirmed. "We are currently intensifying our investigations to track down the remaining perpetrators, namely Aji, Anggi, Tedi, Amat, also known as Acong, and Cipuy."

The police continue to urge the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity. News of this violent ambush serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and prompt law enforcement response.
