Title: Tragedy Strikes: Three-Year-Old Among Youngest Victims of Jeju Air Crash

Article:

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a tragic plane crash in South Korea has left families mourning, including that of a three-year-old boy who was histogram’s youngest victim. The toddler, accompanied by his parents, Kang Ko (43) and Jin Lee Seon (37), was returning home to South Korea after their first family vacation abroad in Thailand. What should have been cherished memories ended in tragedy.

Before the accident, the boy’s parents had shared joyous moments on Instagram, capturing his excitement as he gazed out of the airplane window en route to Bangkok. Another photo showed the little one proudly holding his passport, embarking on his first international trip.

"First time taking my child on an overnight flight, and his passport is still pristine!" his father captioned the post.

Tragically, this flight would also be his last. The family’s joyous vacation photos now serve as poignant mementos, flooded with condolences from friends and strangers alike.

The Boeing 737-800, operated by Jeju Air, overshot the runway at Kwangju Airport, Careless off the runway, hit a wall, and burst into flames on Sunday night. All 179 passengers and crew aboard perished, making it South Korea’s worst aviation disaster in two decades. Only two cabin crew members survived.

Besides the three-year-old, four other children under the age of ten were among the victims. The boy’s father, a public relations professional for the Kia Tigers baseball team, was remembered as a dedicated family man by colleagues like sportscaster Jung Woo-young. The family had recently celebrated the Kia Tigers’ Korean Series win before setting off for their ill-fated trip.

One passenger sent a chilling final message, suggesting that a bird strike may have contributed to the crash: "Do I have to say my last words?"

Hundreds of family members gathered at the airport, desperate for news of their loved ones. As of now, only five bodies have been identified and released, as many remain charred beyond recognition. The search for remains continues, adding to the family’s anguish.

The heartrending story of the three-year-old boyEven innocent stories "xxx, a toddler, was just beginning to explore the world beyond his home. His first plane ride was also his last" brings a deep and lasting pain to families and the nation.

Facts About Penis Fractures: Causes and Symptoms You Should Know

by Chief Editor January 1, 2025
written by Chief Editor

Title: The Surprising Cause Behind a ‘Broken’ Penis: A Urologist’s Explanation

In the realm of sexual health, one of the most intriguing yet rarely discussed conditions is penile fracture, or ‘broken penis syndrome’. While often associated with traumatic injuries, a common misconception is that this condition primarily affects those engaged in high-impact sports. However, specialists warn that the bedroom is the most frequent scene of this unusual sexual health issue.

What is Penile Fracture?

Dr. Adhitama Alam Soeroto, a Specialist Urologist from the National Central General Hospital (RSCM) in Jakarta, clarifies that penile fracture is not an actual bone break. Instead, it’s a tear in the tunica albuginea, the tough, fibrous layers protecting the corpus cavernosum – the sponge-like tissue that fills with blood during an erection.

Symptoms: More Than Just Pain

When this tissue tears, it leads to severe pain, immediately followed by the penis becoming larger and more flaccid, explains Dr. Adhitama. "Imagine your penis is still quite large, but it’s suddenly soft and swollen," he says, underscoring the dramatic change in both sensation and appearance.

The Unexpected Culprits

Contrary to popular belief, it’s not just rough sports that put the penis at risk. Dr. Adhitama reveals that penile fracture often occurs during specific sexual positions; surprisingly, it’s not always the woman on top. "Research has found that male-dominant positions, like man-on-top and doggy style, have a higher risk," he says, attributing this to the potential for the penis to bend unusually during intense moments.

Moreover, age plays a significant role. Young adults experiencing their peak sexual activity have a higher chance of encountering this issue due to their increased sexual encounters and vigor.

Next: Navigating a Penile Fracture

While it might seem alarming, prompt medical intervention can help prevent lasting complications. Stay tuned for our next article: "When Pene’s World Comes Crashing Down: What to Do When You Have a Penile Fracture".

Former US President Spends Remainder of Life Building Homes for the Poor

by Chief Editor December 30, 2024

Headline: Former President Jimmy Carter: A Lifetime of Service with housing-help/apply” title=”Apply for a Habitat house – Habitat for Humanity“>Habitat for Humanity

Subhead: From building his first house in NYC to aiding hurricane and earthquake relief, Carter’s 35-year journey as a Habitat for Humanity volunteer

Article:

In the heart of Jakarta, echoes of a story resonate, one that traverses the Presidency and transcends the White House walls, carrying us to the lives of those less fortunate. This is the narrative of Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, who, upon leaving office, chose a path less trodden for an ex-President: that of a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, an organization dedicated to building homes for those in need.

Carter’s journey began in an unlikely setting – the bustling streets of New York City. A chance encounter with a group of volunteers revealed to him a purpose beyond politics. "Rosalynn (his wife) and I came over and helped them," Carter recounted in 1984. This marked the first time Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, had participated as volunteers.

Little did he know that this initial foray into volunteerism would blossom into a lifelong commitment, transforming his post-presidential life forever. "When we left the White House, we could have done anything. But we chose to be volunteers and workers with Habitat," he confessed, reflecting on the profound impact this decision had on his life.

Each year, the Carters would participate in Habitat’s housing construction events. Their actions, simple yet powerful, would leave a profound impact on communities worldwide. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, they joined other volunteers to rebuild homes along the Mississippi and Louisiana coasts, as well as parts of Texas. In Haiti, they traveled twice, in 2011 and 2012, to help build 100 homes for families affected by the devastating earthquake.

In 2019, at the age of 94, Carter was back at it, appearing in Nashville, Tennessee, despite a recent fall and subsequent surgery. Sporting a black eye and stitches on his head, Carter shrugged off his injuries, stating, "I have one top priority, and that’s coming to Nashville and building a house!"

Throughout his 35-year tenure as a volunteer, Carter and his wife have helped build, repair, and renovate 4,331 homes with Habitat for Humanity. Their commitment to the cause was such that they even involved their non-profit organization, The Carter Center, in these efforts.

Carter’s motivations were deeply rooted in his faith and belief in paying it forward. "One of the things Jesus taught us is: If you have a talent, try to use it to help others," he said.

On December 29, 2024, Carter passed away at the age of 100. His legacy lives on, not just in the halls of the White House, but in every home he helped build, every family he helped lift, and every life he touched as a volunteer. Rest in power, Jimmy Carter.

by Chief Editor December 29, 2024
written by Chief Editor

Title: Kickstart Your New Year’s Health Resolution with Regular Check-ups

In the whirlwind of setting New Year’s resolutions, we often impose lofty health goals upon ourselves, but how do we measure our progress? According to Dr. Ray Rattu, SpPD, a healthcare practitioner at Mayapada Hospital Jakarta Selatan, the key lies in regular check-ups.

"To truly embrace health, we must have benchmarks to determine if we’re on the right track," says Dr. Ray. Regular check-ups provide these much-needed insights, ideally conducted annually, especially for those over 35.

But what does a comprehensive check-up entail? Dr. Ray explains that it varies depending on one’s health profile and needs. However, general categories and age-related vulnerabilities often guide the types of investigations.

For young adults (17-35):

Infected conditions are common among this age group. Regular check-ups can help monitor and prevent:

-Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
–AIDS
-Hepatitis

For adults (35-60):

Beyond the 35th mark, it’s crucial to monitor metabolic disorders. Here’s what you should be screening for:

-Acid reflux
–Cholesterol levels
-Blood sugar (glucose)
-Blood pressure

Why Regular Check-ups Matter

Regular screenings are not about seeking sickness but understanding your body better. Early detection can prevent:

-Sudden health scares
-Chronic illnesses
-Financial burden from extensive treatments

Staying Accountable

Checking off that annual check-up box isn’t just about ticking off a resolution. It’s about understanding that health isn’t a destination but a journey. Staying accountable to your health today is investing in a tomorrow free from preventable health crises.

So, as you set your New Year’s resolutions this year, don’t forget to pencil in your health check-up, and stick to it. It’s about more than just Januarys; it’s about starting a new chapter in your health journey.

Title: "Chinese Officials Brace for Mysterious Pneumonia Wave as Winter Approaches"

by Chief Editor December 28, 2024
written by Chief Editor

China Prepares for Potential Surge in Unknown Pneumonia Cases

In a proactive move to tackle the possibility of a surge in pneumonia cases with unknown causes, China is rolling out a series of measures. The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced on Friday (27/12) that it is conducting trial programs to actively monitor these cases.

CDC head Lei Zhenglong revealed that China is making progress in building a trigger system to monitor and issue early warnings for infectious diseases, as reported by the Global Times. The country is bolstering its surveillance and accuracy systems for infectious diseases.

To enhance its response capabilities, the CDC plans to establish reporting procedures for laboratories, which it will then verify and handle. This move aims to help authorities prepare protocols to tackle unknown pathogens.

Recent data from China’s health authorities shows a rising trend in acute respiratory illnesses between December 16 and 22. Detected cases include pathogens such as rhinovirus and human metapneumovirus. The human metapneumovirus mainly infects children under 14 years old and is showing an increasing trend, particularly in northern provinces.

As the winter and transitional seasons approach, China may face various respiratory infection diseases. However, another Chinese official, Kan Biao, indicated that the overall number of cases this year is expected to be lower than last year, as per Channel News Asia.

With these proactive measures, China seeks to be better prepared for any potential outbreak of unknown pneumonia cases.

Headline: Stunning Discovery: A Complete Mastodon Jaw Unearthed in Orange County, New York

Subhead: A remarkable find has been made in Orange County, New York, where a resident accidentally discovered the complete jawbone of a mastodon, a prehistoric mammal, in their backyard.

Article:

In an astonishing turn of events, a homeowner in Orange County, New York, recently made an extraordinary discovery that has captured the attention of the scientific community. While tending to their property, they stumbled upon two unusual teeth peeking out from beneath the leaves. Intrigued, they decided to dig a little deeper and unearthed not just two, but four teeth – belonging to an unlikely species: a mastodon.

The homeowner, realizing the significance of their find, contacted experts from the New York State Museum. The fossils, revealed to be part of a complete mastodon jawbone, are now undergoing extensive carbon dating and analysis to determine their age, diet, and habitat. Once preserved and studied, the jawbone and related findings will be put on public display in 2025, offering visitors a glimpse into New York’s rich Ice Age history.

The priceless prehistoric treasure was excavated by researchers from the New York State Museum and SUNY Orange, from the backyard of a residence near Scotch Town, New York, USA. Alongside the remarkably well-preserved adult mastodon jaw, researchers also unearthed a fragment of a toe bone and rib pieces, providing valuable insights into the life and environment of these ancient mammals.

Orange County has emerged as a prominent location for mastodon fossils, with more than 150 discovered statewide and nearly a third originating from this county. This latest finding further illuminates the thriving ecosystem that once flourished in New York during the last Ice Age.

Dr. Robert Feranec, Research and Collections Director and Paleontological Vertebrate Curator at the New York State Museum, emphasized the significance of the mastodon jawbone discovery. "This mastodon jaw offers a unique opportunity to study the eco-system of this remarkable species and enhance our understanding of Ice Age ecosystems in the region," he explained.

The excavation has sparked enthusiasm among scientists and researchers eager to unearth more from the site. Dr. Cory Harris, Chair of the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences at SUNY Orange, eagerly awaits further exploration of the area: "The additional toe and rib fragments provide crucial context and potential for future research. We’re also hoping to investigate the surrounding area for more preserved bones."

This monumental discovery serves as a testament to the rich paleontological history hidden beneath our feet, waiting to be revealed. It reminds us that curiosity and keen observation can lead to remarkable insights into our planet’s past, one fossil at a time.

Indonesia’s Surprise: Megawati’s Reaction to Anwar’s MK Leadership

by Chief Editor December 12, 2024
written by Chief Editor

Indonesia’s current major political figure, Megawati Soekarnoputri, expressed her surprise and confusion when Anwar Usman was re-elected as the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK). Megawati couldn’t understand why Anwar was chosen when there were colleagues who, in her view, had more seniority. Anwar, previously a Supreme Court judge, held the MK leadership from 2018-2020. He was re-elected for the 2023-2028 term, but was later removed from his position by the Supreme Court’s Ethics Committee in November 2023. Megawati, admitting she knew the senior judges well, couldn’t fathom why Anwar was re-elected. She specifically mentioned MK Decision No. 90, which altered the age restriction for presidential and vice-presidential candidates.

Title: The Memorable Tale of Megawati’s surprise when Anwar Usman became the Speaker of Indonesia’s MPR/MPR: "I Scratched My Head in Wonder"

Introduction

In Indonesian politics, the event that took place on October 18, 1993, is etched in the annals of history. On this day, Anwar Usman, a prominent figure in the United Development Party (PPP), was surprisingly elected as the Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), a position that was widely expected to go to Megawati Sukarnoputri, then the leader of the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI). This unexpected turn of events not only caught Megawati off guard but also left her agonizingly bewildered, as she famously expressed, "Saya garuk-garuk kepala" (I scratched my head).

The Background

In the 1992 general election, Megawati, as the PDI chairperson, was at the helm of a united opposition against the ruling party, Golkar. Despite her efforts, PDI suffered a defeat, winning only 14.7% of the votes. Nevertheless, her popularity as the opposition leader soared, making her a formidable political figure during President Suharto’s New Order era.

Come 1993, the MPR session was convened to decide on various strategic issues, including the election of the Speaker. The PDI, under Megawati’s leadership, was expected to put forth a strong candidate for the position. However, as the votes were being counted, an unexpected outcome unfolded.

The Earthquake at the MPR

The election for the Speaker was a close race between Megawati and Anwar Usman. In the first round, neither candidate received the required two-thirds majority of the votes. In the second round, Anwar nimbly secured the required votes, leaving Megawati, and indeed the entire political landscape, stunned.

Megawati’s reaction was televised, and her bewilderment was palpable. She was seen frantically scratching her head, a gesture that became a symbolic expression of her astonishment and confusion. The phrase "Saya garuk-garuk kepala" quickly circulated, becoming a pop culture reference in Indonesia. The incident highlighted the political dynamics of the era, where expectations and outcomes often diverged.

The Aftermath

Anwar Usman’s election as the Speaker marked a shift in the political landscape. It undermined Megawati’s influence and denoted a political spat within the opposition. Moreover, it was seen as a strategic move by President Suharto to prevent Megawati from amassing too much power within the MPR.

Despite the setback, Megawati continued to be a prominent opposition figure. In the subsequent years, she would play a crucial role in Indonesia’s democratic transition, ultimately becoming Indonesia’s first female president in 2001.

Conclusion

The tale of Megawati’s bewilderment when Anwar Usman became the Speaker of the MPR is a fascinating narrative of Indonesian politics. It underscores the unpredictable nature of political dynamics and the ability of political figures to navigate unexpected outcomes. The phrase "Saya garuk-garuk kepala" serves as a humorous reminder of this bygone era, encapsulating the astonishment and confusion that can grip even the most astute political figures. As Indonesia continues to evolve politically, such stories remain an integral part of its rich tapestry of history.
