NASA first discovers comet with its own ‘aurora’ | NOW

Aurora is not only found on planets and some moons, but now also on a comet. That reported the American space agency NASA Monday, after scientists study images taken by the Rosetta spacecraft.

It concerns the comet 67P / Churyumov-Gerasimenko (67P / CG). The comet has its own aurora borealis, the phenomenon caused by solar flares.

In violent solar winds, a stream of charged particles escapes from the surface of the sun. These electromagnetic particles can produce a red or blue glow when they reach the atmosphere of a celestial body.

It has already been seen that the light from the sun is deflected from 67P / CG. On closer inspection, however, it turned out that the light was created by the solar particles reacting to the gas in the nebula around the core of the comet. The result is ultraviolet light beams that cannot be seen with the naked eye, but can be seen with specialized instruments.

This discovery could shed light on how solar winds affect space travel and protect satellites and spacecraft.

Aurora can also be seen on planets and moons

Aurora is not only found on our earth. Earlier it was discovered that Saturn, Uranus and Mars also know the phenomenon, just like Jupiter and even on some of its moons. It is the first time that the phenomenon has also been established on a comet.

On Earth, the Northern Lights and Southern Lights only occur at the poles, because the particles are guided to the poles by the Earth’s magnetic field.

67P / Churyumov-Gerasimenko was Rosetta’s end goal. This space probe from the European space agency ESA was launched in 2004 and reached the comet in 2014.

the town of Jette hardens the rule before the start of the school year, students who have stayed in the “orange zone” asked to remain in quarantine!

By imposing on teachers and other staff members, as well as students, who have been in an orange and / or red classified area for at least 48 hours, for a period of 14 days or less before the start of school, to remain in quarantine for 14 days from the date of their return to Belgium, the municipality of Jette goes further than the authorities recommend and that which is done in other municipalities in the country.

The persons concerned are required to inform the school administration. In addition, if a student or staff member is awaiting the result of a covid test, they may not attend school before they have been confirmed that the test is negative and that they are not must not remain in quarantine, we read on the website of the municipality.

“It’s a way of reassuring everyone. Both the teaching staff and the students. But especially the teaching staff in relation to the children. We know that they get little sick but can still transmit the virus, ”the mayor of Jette, Hervé Doyen, told RTBF.

The mayor, however, does not expect the measure to affect many students because many people have already returned from vacation for several days.
