A former TV personality who tried to oppose Putin has been arrested in Russia

Ekaterina Duntsova, 40, was arrested in Tver shortly after announcing her intention to create a political party. According to authorities, she was taken away for “drug testing,” a representative from Duntsova’s headquarters told a local channel, according to Deutsche Welle.

Duncova, a pacifist, wanted to run in the presidential elections again this spring, but Russia’s Central Election Commission decided she could not do so. The Commission did not share detailed explanations, referring only to “errors in the documents”.

Today, Duntsova, from Rzhev, a town of 60,000 inhabitants, announced her intention to create her own party called Koit, which “will unite and bring to power good people, those who want to live in the future, not in the past, in a peaceful environment”. and a safe country where the well-being of all is a priority and not the enrichment of a few.”
