A look back at past Thursdays or how Henn and Hurt turned the tables on FC Flora followers – Soccernet.ee

The end of the season is exciting for every football fan. It is generally associated with various farewells that mark the end of a certain period and the beginning of a new one. Good or bad, it’s an argument either way. Tallinna FC Flora is also present at the point described, whose fans “loudly” supported the moves.

Defending champion Tallinna FC Flora was crowned Estonia’s best for the 15th time this year. The season had its ups and downs, as always in sport, but in the end coach Jürgen Henn managed to squeeze the best out of his men, surpassing those of his opponents. In the end quite a bit, but enough. The grueling season, preceded by several difficult years, has taken the gaze of Henn, who has led the representative team since 2018, away from Flora.

Therefore, FC Flora confirmed on November 30 that Henn will not continue at the club in the new year. A week later, also on Thursday, it was announced that current sporting director Norbert Hurt, who is no stranger to working as (head) coach, will take the helm. In recent years he was in the men’s A team alongside Thomas Häberl, in 2013-2016 he coached FC Flora.

The way followers of the FC Flora Facebook account reacted to this news was colorful and telling. There was joy and love, but there was also fun and anger: both news clearly began to live their own lives. Whether this life was created by avid FC Flora fans or simply followers of the club’s account remains a separate and unanswered question. There are all kinds of users, I’m sure everyone understands this by the example of their own circle of acquaintances. Therefore, when reading the graphs, one should not make hasty conclusions.

When reacting to Facebook posts, users have seven different ways to express how they feel. The most common is the blue thumbs up, which expresses like (Pleases maybe you like it). If the news is particularly joyful and perhaps heartbreaking, you can choose a heart (Love maybe I like it) or a smiley face that gently embraces the heart shell (treatment i.e. I’m interested). If something is funny, it can be expressed with a big smiley face (haha or haha), but if it surprises you, you can choose a cool face (Oh i.e. wow). Clearly negative reactions are crying (sad maybe I’m sad) and angry (angry maybe I’m angry) face.

The first graph helps to compare the reactions with which Jürgen Henn’s departure and Norbert Hurda’s assumption of leadership were received. While “I love” (41 times) and “I care” (28) were also popular in Henn’s case, “haha” (23) and “I’m angry” (14) were also popular. The number of people who reacted to the post also differed by almost 200. It should be noted that since the so-called lifespan of a post on Facebook is considered to be 6 hours, it is not worth giving particular importance to the fact that a news story is older than a week.

With the help of this diagram, it is clear that Henn’s resignation led to more positive emotions. This may mean on the one hand that they are satisfied with the former coach’s services, but also that observers are happy that his tenure is over. Probably, the frequent use of “love” and “care” reactions (69 times in total) still indicates that Henn is respected – after all, he brought numerous championships to the club – and is supported in taking a new step in his career . This is also indicated by a comment (there were seven in total) under the post: “Good job anyway and good luck for the future.”

The news that current sporting director Norbert Hurt will take over the coaching presidency again brought an avalanche of negative reactions in addition to “likes”. While a total of 18 people felt angry and sad, the post was funny to 23 users. Ok, otherwise laughing is still associated with something positive, but in the context of this post the reaction seems to express more ridiculousness. Only three users tried to convey care and love with their reaction.

The comments were also negative. “The worst transition of the new season already happened in December. Cruel,” one wrote. “Fiasco,” another user expressed. “Why? Wasn’t the first time enough? One step forward, three steps back”, was another thought. A total of 23 comments were left under the post.

How to summarize these numbers? Followers of the FC Flora Facebook account are not limited to Pleases‘, which is considered the most common reaction – this was also the case for both posts under consideration. However, several users felt it was important to underline what feelings that specific news aroused. While in Henn’s case a positive emotion remained (most frequent: “I like”, “love” and “care”), Hurta was also greeted in many cases with negative reactions (most frequent: “I like”, ” haha” and “I’m angry”) and comments.
