Jürgen B. had the Hochkönig in front of his eyes every day – from Dienten (Zell am See district), where he had found the center of his life with his wife and their two children. Growing up in Ebensee, B. quickly became a real Pinzgauer, was active in several music bands there and also in that of the Federal Army for a long time, and was considered an extremely accomplished mountaineer.

Last Sunday his life ended far too early at the age of 48. B., who was also a member of the local mountain rescue team, wanted to climb with two friends over the Birgkar, which is steep at up to 45 degrees, to the Hochkönig (2941 meters).
A tour that the father of the family knew and was able to correctly assess. The conditions were good; due to the mild temperatures and the south-eastern orientation of the cirque, a descent in corn snow was to be expected. What exactly happened at 2,387 meters above sea level is not entirely clear.
The 48-year-old may have slipped on a hairpin bend (change of direction when touring) shortly before nine o’clock in the morning. B. could no longer hold on and fell around 300 meters over rocky terrain. He was so seriously injured that even first aid measures from other ski tourers and those from the crew of the “Martin 10” rescue helicopter were no longer of any help. The entire region around the Hochkönig mourns the gifted musician.
