“All symptoms disappeared like tin ash!” Sprinter Kreete Verlin has finally found a treatment that works and aspires to the Olympics without allergies

In the youth class, Crete won one gold after another, only rarely having to surrender to other talented youngsters. Kreete considers it a success that he was able to start as a hurdler at the World Championships and European Championships in different age groups. He became Estonian champion 30 times, he also set a new national record in the 60 meters hurdles in the Winter Athletics Cup. Crete is currently working hard and training for the 2024 season, and of course also dreams of the Olympics.

Exercise is my main source of strength.

The young woman exercises once a day from Monday to Saturday. “I realized for myself that every exercise helps me get closer to my goals and dreams.” She has never felt like she didn’t want to or couldn’t be bothered to exercise in the last 15 years. “Training is my main source of strength,” praises the sprinter.

There is still time to take care of your health

Kreete lived for a short time in America, where he intended to continue his studies and training, but the plans were thwarted by the complicated and long local bureaucratic process. “I had to prove for two and a half years that I’m not a professional athlete,” she says of the NCAA’s demands. “I finally arrived at university in February 2019, I returned home already in March 2020. During two and a half semesters, I didn’t learn much about kinesiology.”

When he returned, Kreete decided to study in Estonia and chose psychology with an emphasis on human studies as his specialization. She graduated in June of this year. “With my education, I could start working, for example, in Tallinn prison,” she shares. “However, in order to work in clinics and elsewhere, I would have to enroll in a master’s degree.” Kreete decided not to do that this fall, to fully focus on training during the important season. He sees his future as a sports or child psychologist.

It’s nice to step away from the world of sport completely for a change.

Cretans like to recharge their batteries by being in nature and rest their spirit by being with close friends. “It’s nice to step out of the world of sports for once and listen to the joys and sorrows of ‘ordinary people,’” smiles Kreete. “I have a lot of free time, because apart from training I don’t work now.” This also allowed Krete to address her health issue more.

Treatment with oxygen and cold

Kreete has been severely allergic his entire life. “As a child I was allergic to several vegetables, fruits, berries and nuts. I was even allergic to milk, although I consumed it anyway. In addition to the food allergy, from which I fortunately recovered, I also suffer from an allergy to animal hair and all types of pollen.”

For a long time Kreete’s body was severely inflamed, and spring was a particularly painful season for him. “As a child I used many over-the-counter and prescription medications—tablets, nasal sprays, eye drops—but none of them did the job as well as he did and turned out to be more of a temporary solution,” says the athlete.

Spring this year was the first time in my life where I could leave the napkins at home and breathe freely.

In early spring, Kreete again sought ways to combat her allergies and was advised to try oxygen therapy and cold therapy. The athlete then began a journey with barotherapy and cryotherapy sessions. The result made him very happy: Kreete felt a big difference after the first sessions. “I was so excited that I continued until August!” she laughs. Kreete underwent barotherapy nine times and cryotherapy five times. “2023. in the spring of 2018 was the first time in my life when I could leave napkins at home and breathe freely – all allergy symptoms evaporated like pond ash!” She admits that the therapies also have a positive effect on recovery from exercise and on the quality of sleep.

Kreete also wants to keep her eating plan healthy. “I need to make sure I consume less wheat and sugar and instead eat foods rich in antioxidants that help reduce inflammation in the body,” Kreete says of which menu suits her. However, it is worth living without serious allergic symptoms. “It would be great if I never had to suffer from oxygen debt due to allergies during exercise.”
