Andrei Schmidt became champion for the second time in the national stage of the European Cup | Badminton

Last weekend in Tartu the stage of the Junior Badminton European Cup took place and Andrei Schmidt became champion for the second time in the home tournament.

The Yonex Estonian Junior competition was successful for Estonian players. First place was won in three game types.

Andrei Schmidt became the two-time winner of the tournament, facing Adith Karthikeyan Priya, the number one in the European junior ranking, in the singles final. Schmidt showed a solid game and defeated Pryia 21:17, 21:14.

Schmidt won his second doubles title with Hugo Themas. Their last opponents were the Frenchmen Timaeus Bourgin and Orphe Queton Bouissou. In a balanced and exciting match, Schmidt and Themas won with the result 21:19, 20:22, 21:19.

In the women’s doubles, first-placed Elisaveta Berik and Emili Pärsim faced second-placed Lithuanians Vilte Paulauskaite and Monika Sukackaite in the final. Even in this match three games were needed to decide the winner. Estonian women won the final 21:18, 19:21, 21:12.

In the doubles match in the final there was Hugo Themas, who played with the Lithuanian Paulauskaite. In the final against Jesus de Burgos and Rocio Martin, Themas and Paulauskaite started well, winning the first match, but the next two matches belonged to their opponents who won 16-21, 21-14, 21-19.

Paulauskaite also played in the third final when she met Spain’s Angela Jimenez in the women’s singles. Lithuania won the tournament with the score of 22:20, 21:12.

More than 70 players from twelve countries took part in the competition.
