This time the cultural show “Killud” was staged with Anna Roberta, the prima ballerina of the Estonian National Ballet, who said that her rebellious nature pushed her far in life.
According to the dancer, she has always been a very rebellious person. «This rebellion takes me forward», underlined Anna Roberta and she added that she always wants to overturn prejudices about herself and others.
“I went to ballet school because they told me I wouldn’t be a dancer, and then I said I had to. I went to work in the theater and I was told you would be a troupe dancer: you dance the swans in the fourth row at the back and you do it, and I said no, it’s not like that,” recalled Anna Roberta, who became prima ballerina of the Estonian National Ballet.
The dancer emphasized that, thanks to her rebellious nature, she was able to portray even strong and rebellious female characters on stage. She believes that with these roles she has learned to break stereotypes.
“We dancers are not all silent and do not speak with soft, delicate voices and wear pink hats, but we are creators, creative people and emotions boil inside us. I am happy that he took me and I had the opportunity to live,” she said.
“If it’s easy to be rebellious when you’re young – you’re a teenager and it’s expected of you, it’s quite acceptable – then rebelling as an adult, especially when I work in the theatre, I have fellow dancers, colleagues, directors, it’s taken on more of a form of rebellion against stereotypes, I rebel when for example it is said that an Estonian school is not as good as a foreign school. In me this rebellion manifests itself in the fact that I show you that Estonian dancers are just as good or even better than foreign dancers, not you can label me as an Estonian dancer. I’m a dancer, I’m a creator, my creations are no less precious. I’m not afraid to work hard to prove that I can be better than people think.”
