Arsenal remain leaders, ManU lose to Newcastle

Bukayo Saka gave Arsenal the lead in the sixth minute, and after a quarter of an hour it was already 2-0, thanks also to a goal from Martin Ödegaard. At the end of the second half Matheus Cunha reduced the deficit to a minimum, but Wolves were unable to do more.

Arsenal continue to lead with 34 points, four points ahead of Manchester City, who have played fewer games. Wolves are 13th in the table with 15 points.

Newcastle United also earned a bonus for the win, 1:0 better than Manchester United at home. The only goal of the match was scored by Anthony Gordon in the 55th minute.

Newcastle’s winning numbers could have been significantly higher, but the visitors’ skin was saved once by the goals and on several occasions the ManU defenders and goalkeeper Andre Onana had to intervene decisively. The shots were 22-8 in favor of the hosts and, according to xG, ManU should have removed 2.98 balls from their net, compared to 0.38 for Newcastle.

Newcastle (26 points) moved up to fifth place with the win, while ManU (24) dropped to seventh.

In the other matches played on Saturday, Brentford defeated Luton 3-1, Burnley were better than Sheffield United 5-0 and Nottingham Forest recognized Everton’s superiority 1-0 at home.
