Artist Pille Ernesaks sells expensive painting “Kallis” to build Gustav Ernesaksa House Museum | Art

Gustav Ernesaksa’s 115th birthday has just been celebrated. Laulutaat’s grandson, the artist Pille Ernesaks, opened the exhibition “Lilac Pain” in the Hop gallery on this occasion, full of memories and nostalgia for his grandfather.

According to the artist, both in dreams and in reality, he was haunted by the desire to establish a house museum in the former house of Gustav Ernesaksa on Oru Street. Currently, a hotel operates in the legendary house built by the singers of the National Men’s Choir, which seems unfair to the artist.

“When I look at my grandfather’s house on 10 Oru Street, I wonder what it is now. I wonder if I have a strange feeling that this thing has to stop. “But everything is so expensive around here and it’s brought up as a reason why it’s like this,” Ernesaks complained.

“Grandfather, grandmother and memories are dear to me, so I poured this big dear big expensive painting, where there is nothing but a big ‘treasure’ written with pencils and painted with a big brush. It is an expensive painting that it costs a million and supports my desire to buy the house back from the state and make it a house museum and a creative house,” Ernesaks expressed.
