At the beginning of the year, the funding decision did not result in life-saving drugs. The child’s treatment continued with the support of the Children’s Fund

At the beginning of December Sakala had written that, starting from 2024, the health insurance fund will reimburse the medical expenses of little Kevin-Sander, suffering from a rare disease, at the maximum. The Children’s Fund, which has been supporting the boy’s treatment with the help of donors for more than a year, has not yet dared to rejoice, and during the holidays there was concern about the future of the fund. Although the treatment continued without interruption, the boy received the medicine at the beginning of the new year thanks to the children’s fund, because the new quantity of medicines had not yet arrived in Estonia.

In short, the children’s fund claims that the care was able to continue largely only because the fund did not believe the promises made last year by the health fund, according to which from this year the care of children will continue with the state money. The health insurance company believes that everything is fine because the treatment has continued. The University of Tartu clinic does not share the assessments.
