All the semi-finalists of the Spanish Cup have been announced. The last step was redeemed by Atletico Madrid, who beat Sevilla 1-0 in the quarter-finals.
Playing at home, Atletico had a great chance to take the lead midway through the first half, but Antoine Griezmann slipped onto the penalty spot and sent the ball wide.
The situation remained goalless until the 79th minute, when Memphis Depay, a substitute, reached the goal. Referee Jesus Manzano awarded a penalty in favor of Sevilla in the final minutes, but after consulting VAR he decided to disallow the free kick from 11 metres.
In addition to Atletico, Bilbao Athletic, Real Sociedad and Mallorca also reached the semi-finals. Real Madrid, winner of the cup last year, lost in the top 16, while Barcelona, winner of 31 cups, exited the competition in the quarter-finals, conceding the superiority of Athletic by 4:2.
The semi-final pairings will be drawn on Friday 26 January, while the matches will begin on 6 February.
