Billie Eilish shone on the Golden Globes red carpet wearing an elegant outfit consisting of a beige pleated skirt, an oversized black blazer and a light blue turtleneck shirt with a large black ribbon attached. She accessorized the look with Anita Ko jewelry and retro Mary Jane heels that she found at a thrift store.
After posing on the red carpet, Eilish received even more attention when she took the stage to accept her Golden Globe. “Thank you so much. The Golden Globe, I didn’t expect it at this time. Thanks to my brother Finnea, you are the reason why I am who I am,” the singer said in his acceptance speech. “I want to thank Greta and Noah for making this incredible film. I want to thank Margot for being the Margot we know and love. I want to thank Mattel and Interscope, my label, Darkroom and my incredible team Chelsea and Michelle and my manager and mom . My mom and my dad and my brother again,” he continued.
“And you know, exactly a year ago they showed us this movie and I was very, very unhappy and depressed at the time and writing this song saved me a little bit,” he concluded. “And a year later here we are and it’s really unreal. I feel incredibly lucky.”
In an interview with Apple Music 1 host Zane Lowe in July, the 22-year-old singer revealed that Eilish and her brother Finneas wrote “What Was I Made For?” at a time when they were tired of writing songs. She also revealed that director Gerwig asked them to write the story for the film after they were shown an early version of “Barbie.” Eilish said the film inspired her and she immediately began to identify with the song’s lyrics.
“I don’t really want to sound arrogant, but I do this thing where I create things that I don’t even know about… like I’m writing to myself and I don’t even know it,” he told the Time. “It’s one of the most incredible experiences of my life. The next week I played it all day in the car and showed it to everyone. And that’s exactly how I feel. And I didn’t even think to say it.”
